Organic, social, sanitary and financial impacts in Brazil due to chronic alcoholism

Resumo: | Introduction: the abuse of alcoholic beverages is among the biggest health problems worldwide, in the social and financial aspect, due to the high cost of medical care and the loss in productivity due to mortality and premature death, in addition to alcohol dependence increasing the risk for family disorders. Objective: to lecture about the organic, social, sanitary and financial impacts of Brazil related to chronic alcoholism. Methodology: this is an integrative literature review. The research was carried out through online access to the National Library of Medicine (PubMed MEDLINE), Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR), Google Scholar, Virtual Health Library (BVS) and EBSCO databases. Information Services. Results and discussion: the abusive and/or inappropriate consumption of this substance can lead to serious consequences, both at an organic, psychological, social and financial level. Among them are the occurrence of injuries from external causes, especially accidents or violence, health problems, comorbidities, hospitalizations resulting from drug use, hospitalizations in general clinic psychiatric problems, as well as expenses with medication, psychological care, reduction/loss of patient productivity as a function of illness, physical disability, which may be temporary or permanent, and costs related to early mortality. Final considerations: combining economic analysis with scientific studies on alcohol abuse is relevant and necessary, as the consequences of the misuse of this substance are discussed beyond just those related to the harm to the health of abusive individuals; it also refers to the consequences of public impact. |

Objetivo: disertar sobre los impactos orgánicos, sociales, sanitarios y financieros de Brasil relacionados con el alcoholismo crónico. Metodología: se trata de una revisión integrativa de la literatura. La investigación se llevó a cabo a través del acceso en línea a la Biblioteca Nacional de Medicina (PubMed MEDLINE), Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR), Google Scholar, Virtual Health Library (BVS) y las bases de datos EBSCO. Servicios. Resultados y discusión: el consumo abusivo y/o inadecuado de esta sustancia puede acarrear graves consecuencias, tanto a nivel orgánico, psicológico, social y económico. Entre ellos se encuentran la ocurrencia de lesiones por causas externas, especialmente accidentes o violencia, problemas de salud, comorbilidades, hospitalizaciones por consumo de drogas, hospitalizaciones en clínica general, problemas psiquiátricos, así como gastos con medicamentos, atención psicológica, reducción/pérdida de productividad del paciente. en función de la enfermedad, la invalidez física, que puede ser temporal o permanente, y los costos relacionados con la mortalidad temprana. Consideraciones finales: combinar el análisis económico con los estudios científicos sobre el abuso del alcohol es relevante y necesario, ya que las consecuencias del mal uso de esta sustancia se discuten más allá de las relacionadas con el daño a la salud de las personas abusadoras; también se refiere a las consecuencias del impacto público.Introdução: o abuso de bebidas alcóolicas está entre os maiores problemas de saúde mundial, no aspecto social e financeiro, em virtude do alto custo em assistência médica e do prejuízo na produtividade devido à mortalidade e à morte prematura, além da dependência do álcool aumentar o risco para transtornos familiares. Objetivo: dissertar acerca dos impactos orgânicos, sociais, sanitários e financeiros do Brasil relacionados ao etilismo crônico. Metodologia: trata-se de uma revisão integrativa de literatura. A pesquisa foi realizada através do acesso online nas bases de dados National Library of Medicine (PubMed MEDLINE), Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR), Google Scholar, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS) e EBSCO Information Services. Resultados e discussão: o consumo abusivo e/ou inadequado desta substância pode acarretar em consequências graves, tanto em nível orgânico, como psicológico, social e financeiro. Entre elas, estão as ocorrências de lesões por causas externas, sobretudo acidentes ou violência, agravos de saúde, comorbidades, internações decorrentes do uso de drogas, internações em clínica geral problemas psiquiátricos, bem como despesas com medicação, atendimento psicológico, redução/perda de produtividade do paciente em função da doença, incapacidade física, que pode ser temporária ou permanente, e custos relativos à mortalidade precoce.
