Search strategies and information sources on the Web used by students of an integrated IT technical course

Resumo: | This article reports the experience of an intervention project designed to teach web information search strategies, in order to allow students to better satisfy their information needs. This intervention was divided into three phases: diagnosis of the search strategies used by the students; teaching Web information search strategies and indicating information sources for academic activities; evaluation of what the students learned by attending the course. At the end of the intervention, the students reported optimism regarding the advanced search tools on Google learned and envisioned more assertive and direct queries, causing them to spend less time with the disposal of useless results resulting from inaccurate and generalist queries. With regard to scientific journals, students eulogized the advantage of easy access to reliable scientific articles, which, in addition to offering quality content, eliminate the need to investigate the reliability of the content. With regard to Pergamum, the students highlighted the possibility of searching for titles without having to be present at the institution, in addition to the greater possibility of knowledge of the campus collection and other network campuses, in case of eventual future need. Finally, it is concluded that the more experience the students acquire with the search and use of information, the better their learning of school content may be and the better prepared they will be for the challenges life presents them. |

Esta intervención se dividió en tres fases: diagnóstico de las estrategias de búsqueda utilizadas por la clase; enseñar estrategias de búsqueda de información para la Web e indicar fuentes de información para la realización de actividades académicas; evaluación de lo asimilado por la clase luego de conocer las mejores estrategias de búsqueda. Al final de la intervención, los estudiantes manifestaron optimismo con respecto a las herramientas de búsqueda avanzada en Google, aprendieron e imaginaron consultas más asertivas y directas, lo que les permitió perder menos tiempo descartando resultados inútiles derivados de consultas imprecisas y generalistas. En cuanto a las revistas científicas, los estudiantes destacaron la ventaja del fácil acceso a artículos científicos confiables, que además de ofrecer contenido de calidad, elimina la necesidad de investigar la confiabilidad del contenido. Con respecto a Pérgamo, los estudiantes destacaron la posibilidad de investigar títulos sin tener que estar presentes en la institución, además de la mayor posibilidad de conocer el acervo del plantel y otros planteles de la red, en caso de alguna necesidad futura. Finalmente, se concluye que mientras más experiencia adquieran los estudiantes con la búsqueda y uso de la información, mejor podrán aprender los contenidos escolares y más preparados estarán para los retos que la vida les presenta.Este artigo relata a experiência de um projeto de intervenção (minicurso) realizado com a finalidade de ensinar estratégias de busca de informações na Web, a fim permitir ao estudante melhor satisfação de suas necessidades informacionais. Essa intervenção foi dividida em três fases: diagnóstico das estratégias de busca utilizadas pela turma; ensino de estratégias de busca de informação para a Web e indicação de fontes de informação para a realização de atividades acadêmicas; avaliação do que foi assimilado pela turma após tomar conhecimento das melhores estratégias de busca. Ao final da intervenção, os discentes relataram otimismo com relação às ferramentas de busca avançada no Google aprendidas e vislumbraram consultas mais assertivas e diretas, fazendo com que perdessem menos tempo com o descarte de resultados inúteis resultantes de consultas imprecisas e generalistas. Com relação aos periódicos científicos os alunos exaltaram a vantagem da facilidade de acesso a artigos científicos confiáveis, e que além de oferecerem conteúdo de qualidade eliminam a necessidade de investigar a confiabilidade do conteúdo. Com relação ao Pergamum, os alunos enalteceram a possibilidade de pesquisar títulos sem precisar estar presente na instituição, além da maior possibilidade de conhecimento do acervo do campus e de outros campis da rede, em caso de eventual futura necessidade.
