Alternative/complementary therapies as a strategy for the care of the nursing team in the face of depression in crisis contexts: integrative review

Resumo: Objective: to identify, in the literature, alternative therapies that have already been used to provide emotional support in the face of depression, which can be applied by the nursing team during crisis contexts, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Methodology: the Integrative Literature Review study used the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) platform through PubMed, using the MeSH descriptors: complementary therapies AND depression. Results: Of the 8923 titles retrieved by the search, only 15 were included in this review, as they met the selection criteria. The alternative therapies found were divided into 8 categories: Acupuncture, Art Therapy, Ayahuasca, Biodanza, Pranic Healing, Music Therapy, Anise Oil and Yoga. Within this classification, it was possible to observe that the most present therapy in the studies found were Yoga and Acupuncture, all categories of therapies were reported as capable of promoting the improvement of depressive symptoms. Conclusion: the alternative/complementary therapies already used to improve depressive symptoms and/or depression, found in this study, open a range of care that can serve as emotional support for the nursing team in a crisis context such as the one caused by the COVID pandemic. -19. Yoga and acupuncture were described more frequently, being the therapies in which the results and application varieties can be options for the development of group or individual activities, being an option of choice for the nursing team.

Metodología: el estudio Integrative Literature Review utilizó la plataforma Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) a través de PubMed, utilizando los descriptores MeSH: terapias complementarias Y depresión. Resultados: De los 8923 títulos recuperados por la búsqueda, solo 15 fueron incluidos em esta revisión, ya que cumplieron con los criterios de selección. Las terapias alternativas encontradas se dividieron en 8 categorías: Acupuntura, Arteterapia, Ayahuasca, Biodanza, Sanación Pránica, Musicoterapia, Aceite de Anís y Yoga. Dentro de esta clasificación, fue posible observar que las terapias más presentes en los estudios encontrados fueron el Yoga y la Acupuntura, todas las categorías de terapias fueron reportadas como capaces de promover la mejoría de los síntomas depresivos. Conclusión: las terapias alternativas/complementarias ya utilizadas para mejorar los síntomas depresivos y/o la depresión, encontradas en este estudio, abren un abanico de cuidados que pueden servir de apoyo emocional para el equipo de enfermería en un contexto de crisis como el provocado por la COVID pandemia -19. El yoga y la acupuntura fueron descritos con mayor frecuencia, siendo las terapias en las que los resultados y variedades de aplicación pueden ser opciones para el desarrollo de actividades grupales o individuales, siendo una opción de elección para el equipo de enfermería.Objetivo: identificar, na literatura, as terapias alternativas que já têm sido utilizadas para fornecer suporte emocional frente à depressão, que podem ser aplicadas pela equipe de enfermagem durante contextos de crise, como a pandemia da COVID-19. Metodologia: o estudo de Revisão Integrativa da Literatura, utilizou a plataforma Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) por intermédio da PubMed, empregando os descritores MeSH: complementary therapies AND depression.  Resultados: Dos 8923 títulos recuperados pela busca, apenas 15 foram incluídos nesta revisão, por atenderem aos critérios de seleção. As terapias alternativas encontradas foram divididas em 8 categorias: Acupuntura, Arteterapia, Ayahuasca, Biodanza, Cura Prânica, Musicoterapia, Óleo de Anis e Yoga. Dentro dessa classificação, foi possível observar que a terapia mais presente nos estudos encontrados foram a Yoga e Acupuntura, todas as categorias de terapias foram relatadas como capazes de promover a melhora de sintomas depressivos.  Conclusão: as terapias alternativas/complementares já usadas para melhora de sintomas depressivos e/ou depressão, encontradas neste estudo, abrem um leque de cuidados que podem servir de suporte emocional para a equipe de enfermagem em contexto de crise como a provocada pela pandemia da COVID-19.
