Being a woman and being on the street: the psychological suffering of homeless women

Resumo: Objective: To analyze the presence of psychological distress in homeless women. Method: Descriptive, exploratory study with a qualitative approach, using the theoretical framework of thematic content analysis. Held in a type II reception center in São Paulo. Interview with instrument on sociodemographic profile and morbidity and guiding questions. Interviews were audio recorded, transcribed in full and interpreted according to content analysis. Results: Sixteen homeless women participated in the study, all of them experienced psychological suffering before the homelessness and once in it, he was aggravated by the adversities in the attempt to survive, in the midst of daily life permeated by subhuman conditions, prejudices, idleness, invisibility social, impediments to reintegration into the labor market, serious violations of human rights and the violence suffered, including that of the State. Main manifestations identified were changes in mood, sleep and appetite, emotional stress, suicide attempts, constant crying, anxiety, nervousness and psychosomatic symptoms. Conclusion: the presence of psychological suffering, was due to a capitalist, sexist and patriarchal system that corroborates social vulnerability through social inequality and exclusion.

Método: Estudio descriptivo, exploratório com enfoue cualitativo, utilizando el marco teórico del análisis de contenido temático. Realizado en un centro de acogida tipo II en São Paulo. Entrevista con instrumento sobre perfil sociodemográfico y morbilidad y preguntas orientadoras. Las entrevistas se grabaron en audio, se transcribieron íntegramente e interpretaron de acuerdo con el análisis de contenido. Resultados: Participaron del estudio 16 mujeres sin hogar, todas ellas experimentaron sufrimiento psicológico ante el sinhogarismo y una vez en él, se vio agravado por las adversidades en el intento de sobrevivir, en medio de la vida cotidiana permeada por condiciones infrahumanas, prejuicios, holgazanería, invisibilidad. sociales, impedimentos para la reintegración al mercado laboral, graves violaciones a los derechos humanos y la violencia sufrida, incluida la del Estado. Las principales manifestaciones identificadas fueron cambios de humor, sueño y apetito, estrés emocional, intentos de suicidio, llanto constante, ansiedad, nerviosismo y síntomas psicosomáticos. Conclusión: la presencia del sufrimiento psicológico, se debió a un sistema capitalista, sexista y patriarcal que corroborá-la la vulnerabilidad social a través de la desigualdad y exclusión social.Objetivo: Analisar presença de sofrimento psíquico em mulheres em situação de rua. Método: Estudo descritivo, exploratório, de abordagem qualitativa, com uso do referencial teórico da análise de conteúdo temático. Realizado em centro de acolhida tipo II de São Paulo. Feita entrevista com instrumento sobre perfil sociodemográfico e de morbidade e questões norteadoras. Entrevistas foram áudio gravadas, transcritas na íntegra e interpretadas conforme análise de conteúdo. Resultados: Dezesseis mulheres em situação de rua participaram do estudo, todas experienciavam sofrimento psíquico antes da situação de rua e uma vez nela, ele foi agudizado pelas adversidades na tentativa de sobrevivência, em meio a cotidiano permeado por condições subumanas, preconceitos, ociosidade, invisibilidade social, impedimentos para reinserção no mercado de trabalho, graves violações aos direitos humanos e as violências sofridas, incluindo a do Estado. Principais manifestações identificadas foram alterações de humor, de sono e apetite, estresse emocional, tentativas de suicídio, choros constantes, ansiedade, nervosismo e sintomas psicossomáticos.
