Higher education: the challenges experienced in teaching by professors with bachelor's degrees in Economic Sciences, at the beginning of their careers

Resumo: The objective of the study is to investigate the challenges experienced in teaching higher education by professors with a degree in Economic Sciences, at the beginning of their careers, understanding the perceptions of beginning teachers regarding the training needs to overcome the challenges of teaching in higher education, finally, the creation of the Index of Challenges for Economics Teachers at the Beginning of their Career – IDEIC. For this purpose, the quanti-qualitative research was used as a methodological approach. The sample is non-probabilistic, for convenience, and had 12 teachers, distributed in three northeastern states, namely: Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará. The results show that the challenges faced are characterized in different aspects, since they range from the lack of initial training, pedagogical training and institutional support. The most direct conclusion of the study is that teachers have, mainly, gaps in Pedagogical Training and Initial Training, which contributed to the high value of IDEIC (0.86).

Para ello, se utilizó como enfoque metodológico la investigación cuanti-cualitativa. La muestra es no probabilística, por conveniencia, y contó con 12 docentes, distribuidos en tres estados del noreste, a saber: Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte y Ceará. Los resultados muestran que los desafíos enfrentados se caracterizan en diferentes aspectos, pues van desde la falta de formación inicial, formación pedagógica y apoyo institucional. La conclusión más directa del estudio es que los docentes presentan, principalmente, brechas en Formación Pedagógica y Formación Inicial, lo que contribuyó al alto valor del IDEIC (0,86).O objetivo do estudo é investigar os desafios vivenciados na docência do ensino superior pelos professores bacharéis em Ciências Econômicas, em início de carreira, compreendendo as percepções dos professores iniciantes quanto às necessidades formativas para a superação dos desafios da docência no ensino superior, por fim, a criação do Índice dos Desafios dos Docentes de Economia em Início de Carreira – IDEIC. Para tanto, utilizou-se como abordagem metodológica a pesquisa quanti-qualitativa. A amostra é do tipo não probabilística, por conveniência, e contou com 12 professores, distribuídos em três estados nordestinos, a saber: Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte e Ceará. Os resultados evidenciam que os desafios enfrentados se caracterizam em distintos aspectos, visto que vão desde a carência da formação inicial, formação pedagógica e apoio institucional.
