Resumo: The objective was to study the coexistence between grandparents and grandchildren, in the perspective of children. It is a descriptive exploratory study, with a qualitative approach with six grandchildren and six grandparents, answering questions about the reason for care, the meaning of coexistence, place of interaction and play activities. The results showed that the reasons for grandchildren to be cared for by grandparents were: adoption, pregnancy in adolescence and support for their children. The meaning of coexistence depends on the type of care, for grandchildren who stay full time grandparents are caregivers; the systematic ones are companions and the sporadic are fun. Playful activities between full-time grandchildren and grandparents tend to occur the inside spaces, such as educational and electronic games, while systematic and sporadic grandparents prioritize plays in external spaces, such as beach, swimming pool, parks and outdoor sports games. The main conclusion of the study was that the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren is based on the type of relationship determined by the frequency of encounters. This frequency enables not only the number of interactions but also their quality of living together.

Research, Society and Development2017-04-19info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/8210.17648/rsd-v5i1.82Research, Society and Development; Vol. 5 No. 1; 02-17Research, Society and Development; Vol. 5 Núm. 1; 02-17Research, Society and Development; v. 5 n. 1; 02-172525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/82/91Copyright (c) 2017 Rosa Maria da Motta Azambujainfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessAzambuja, Rosa Maria da MottaRabinovich, Elaine Pedreira2019-01-21T22:49:46Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/82Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:25:45.834048Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
