Resumo: The aim of the present study was to investigate the organization of a tennis court social project, including the profile of the participants, the reasons that lead children and adolescents to be included in the project, factors for participation and perception of practitioners about the social project. The subjects participating in the study were two Physical Education teachers and 46 students from different classes of the tennis social project developed by the Municipal Department of Sport and Leisure in the city of Uruguaiana/RS. Data collection involved the application of two questionnaires to the students of the project and a semi-structured interview with the teachers responsible for the development of this project. Participant observation was also carried out for two months in the project, using a field diary to record information. As a result, it was observed the concern of the social project in providing the teaching of tennis as a means for transforming the reality of the participants, where the main motivations for insertion occurred through the encouragement of a family member, friend or acquaintance who already participates in the classes, or even by the will of someone in charge. It was found that the main teaching strategy used was the Play and Stay methodology, which provides the learning of tennis along with fun and that, the permanence of the participants in the project occurred for reasons of fun and the desire to evolve in the sport. It is concluded that the project provides opportunities far beyond the teaching of sport, configuring itself as a space for social transformation.
