Signs and symptoms of anxiety and depression in students of nursing: literature review

Resumo: | This study aimed to carry out a literature review on the signs and symptoms of anxiety and depression in nursing students. This is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach, of the literature review type. The research was carried out in the databases Base Brazilian Journal of Development (BJD), Revista Eletrônica Acervo Saúde (REAS), Revista Brasileira de Educação Médica (RBEM), Revista Latinoamericana Enfermagem (RLAE), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). The descriptors performance anxiety, depression and nursing student, found on the Descriptors in Health Sciences (DeCS) platform, were used. Studies that addressed the proposed theme, free full text, Portuguese language, were included. A total of 2,761 studies were found, and after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, only 07 articles made up the final sample of the review. Results found on the prevalence and factors associated with anxiety and depression, revealing levels of anxiety of 76.9% mild, 15.4% moderate and 7.7% severe in the Nursing course. In academics, high rate of self-accusation 51.72%, 67.28% of irritability, 58.62% of loss of appetite, 38.69% of crying spells, 38.8% of social withdrawal, 44.84% of indecision for with life. These numbers are related to the vulnerability that students have to depressive symptoms, arising from excesses of anxiety, preoccupation with grades, high workload and studies, and social withdrawal. Therefore, the results contributed with data to support new studies and tools for the prevention, promotion and recovery of nursing students' mental health. |

Se trata de un estudio descriptivo con abordaje cuantitativo, del tipo revisión de literatura. La investigación se realizó en las bases de datos Base Brazilian Journal of Development (BJD), Revista Eletrônica Acervo Saúde (REAS), Revista Brasileira de Educação Médica (RBEM), Revista Latinoamericana Enfermagem (RLAE), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) . Se utilizaron los descriptores desempeño ansiedad, depresión y estudiante de enfermería, encontrados en la plataforma Descriptores en Ciencias de la Salud (DeCS). Se incluyeron estudios que abordaron el tema propuesto, texto completo libre, idioma portugués. Se encontraron un total de 2.761 estudios, y luego de aplicar los criterios de inclusión y exclusión, solo 07 artículos conformaron la muestra final de la revisión. Resultados encontrados sobre la prevalencia y factores asociados a la ansiedad y depresión, revelando niveles de ansiedad 76,9% leve, 15,4% moderada y 7,7% severa en la carrera de Enfermería. En lo académico, alto índice de autoacusación 51,72%, 67,28% de irritabilidad, 58,62% de pérdida de apetito, 38,69% de llanto, 38,8% de retraimiento social, 44,84% de indecisión por con la vida. Estos números están relacionados con la vulnerabilidad que tienen los estudiantes a síntomas depresivos, derivados de excesos de ansiedad, preocupación por las notas, alta carga de trabajo y estudios, y aislamiento social. Por lo tanto, los resultados contribuyeron con datos para sustentar nuevos estudios y herramientas para la prevención, promoción y recuperación de la salud mental de los estudiantes de enfermería.Esse estudo teve como objetivo realizar uma revisão de literatura sobre os sinais e sintomas de ansiedade e depressão em estudantes de enfermagem. Foram utilizados os descritores ansiedade de desempenho, depressão e estudante de enfermagem, encontrados na plataforma Descritores em Ciências da Saúde (DeCS). Foram incluídos os estudos que abordassem a temática proposta, texto completo gratuito, língua portuguesa. Foram encontrados 2.761 estudos, e após a aplicação dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão, apenas 07 artigos compuseram a amostra final da revisão. Resultados encontrados sobre prevalência e fatores associados a ansiedade e depressão, a revelar níveis de ansiedade de 76,9% leve, 15,4% moderado e 7,7% grave no curso de Enfermagem. Nos acadêmicos alto índice de autoacusação 51,72%, 67,28% de irritabilidade, 58,62% de perca do apetite, 38,69% em crises de choro, 38,8% de retração social, 44,84% de indecisão para com a vida. Esses quantitativos são relacionados a vulnerabilidade que os estudantes tem aos sintomas depressivos, oriundos dos excessos de ansiedade, preocupação com as notas, alta carga horária de trabalho e estudos e afastamento social.
