Microlearning as a new techno-pedagogical approach: A review

Resumo: In recent years, we have seen an explosion of Digital Information and Communication Technologies in many areas. This COVID-19 pandemic period has further accelerated the use of TDICs by teachers and students, with the increasing use of several technological approaches, such as the adoption of new applications, platforms, in addition to different methodologies. One of these technological/methodological approaches is microlearning, which emerges as a new way of sharing knowledge through more objective and shorter classes. This study, that to date, is the first literature review work published in Portuguese addressing this subject as the main theme, sought as its main objective to carry out a literature review addressing various aspects of microlearning, introducing motivation, presenting its main concepts, their relationship with other e-learning concepts, terminologies adopted, relationship between the forgetting curve and content retention, as it has been adopted by integrating other technologies and methodologies and research efforts carried out. For the research of articles on microlearning, the Web of Science and Scopus databases were adopted, in addition to Google Scholar. The results showed that there is still much to be investigated on the subject, especially in formal education including elementary, high school and higher education.

Este período de pandemia de COVID-19 ha acelerado aún más el uso de TDIC por parte de docentes y estudiantes, con el uso creciente de diversos enfoques tecnológicos, como la adopción de nuevas aplicaciones, plataformas, además de diferentes metodologías. Uno de estos enfoques tecnológicos/metodológicos es el microaprendizaje, que surge como una nueva forma de compartir conocimientos a través de clases más objetivas y de menor duración. Este estudio, que hasta ahora es el primer trabajo de revisión de literatura publicado en portugués que aborda este tema como tema principal, buscó como objetivo principal realizar una revisión de literatura que aborde varios aspectos del microaprendizaje, introduciendo la motivación, presentando sus conceptos principales, su relación con otros conceptos de e-learning, terminologías adoptadas, relación entre la curva de olvido y la retención de contenidos, tal como se ha adoptado al integrar otras tecnologías y metodologías y esfuerzos de investigación realizados. Para la investigación de artículos sobre microaprendizaje, se adoptaron las bases de datos Web of Science y Scopus, además de Google Scholar. Los resultados mostraron que aún queda mucho por investigar sobre el tema, especialmente en la educación formal incluyendo la educación primaria, secundaria y superior.Nos últimos anos, assistimos a uma explosão de Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação Digital (TDICs) em várias áreas. Este período pandêmico da COVID-19 acelerou ainda mais a utilização das TDICs pelos docentes e discentes, com o uso crescente de diversas abordagens tecnológicas, como a adoção de novos aplicativos, plataformas, além de diferentes metodologias. Uma dessas abordagens tecnológicas / metodológicas é o microlearning, que surge como uma nova forma de partilhar o conhecimento através de aulas mais objetivas e curtas. Este estudo, que até o momento é o primeiro trabalho de revisão de literatura publicado em português abordando este assunto como tema principal, buscou como principal objetivo, realizar uma revisão de literatura abordando diversos aspectos sobre o microlearning, introduzindo a motivação, apresentando os seus principais conceitos, seu relacionamento com outros conceitos da aprendizagem eletrônica, terminologias adotadas, relação entre curva de esquecimento e retenção de conteúdo, como tem sido adotado integrando outras tecnologias e metodologias e esforços de pesquisa realizados. Para a pesquisa dos artigos sobre microlearning, foram adotadas as bases de dados Web of Science e Scopus, além do Google Acadêmico.
