Resumo: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a very common disease affecting about 5% to 10% of the female population and being one of the main causes of infertility in women of reproductive age. It is characterized by hormonal disorders such as menstrual irregularity or amenorrhea, which can result in anovulation, hirsutism, acne, alopecia and obesity. The present research aimed to find out how prevention and quality of life can benefit these women with PCOS. This was a narrative review of the literature, carried out in the PUBMED, BIREME and SCIELO databases, with the descriptors “Polycystic ovarian syndrome/Polycystic ovarian syndrome”, “Polycystic ovary/polycystic ovarian syndrome”, “Nutritional treatment of PCOS / nutritional treatment of POS", “Metformin/ Metformin” and “Anticonceptional/ Contraceptive”. The results showed that lifestyle changes, physical activity and vitamin and mineral supplement intake have a positive effect on the health of women with PCOS. Thus, nutritional aspects tend to be paramount, as it helps to maintain food diversification balanced in the needs of each patient with this syndrome, and weight reduction of 5 to 10% can improve several symptoms in PCOS.

Thus, nutritional aspects tend to be paramount, as it helps to maintain food diversification balanced in the needs of each patient with this syndrome, and weight reduction of 5 to 10% can improve several symptoms in PCOS.El síndrome de ovario poliquístico (SOP) es una enfermedad muy común que afecta aproximadamente al 5% al 10% de la población femenina y es una de las principales causas de infertilidad en mujeres en edad reproductiva. Research, Society and Development2022-06-29info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/3152210.33448/rsd-v11i8.31522Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 No. 8; e56511831522Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 Núm. 8; e56511831522Research, Society and Development; v. 11 n. 8; e565118315222525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/31522/26804Copyright (c) 2022 Maria Eduarda Ferreira Coutinho; Milena Cavalcante Xavier ; Ana Lúcia Ribeiro Salomon https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess Coutinho, Maria Eduarda Ferreira Xavier , Milena Cavalcante Salomon , Ana Lúcia Ribeiro 2022-07-01T13:34:06Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/31522Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:47:50.130269Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
