Effectiveness of polymerization of photopolymering devices used in clinical dental school of Recife

Resumo: This work aimed to evaluate the general state of different light curing devices used at the clinical school of dentistry at Uninassau/PE and their effectiveness in the polymerization of composite resins. For this, we evaluate the irradiance of 18 devices and their conditions of use considering the integrity and sanitization of the tips. For the analysis of effectiveness, a total of 15 specimens (Ꝋ 6 mm x 2 mm) were made with the composite resin Filtek Z250 (3M ESPE, St. Paul, MN, USA). The specimens were divided into 3 groups (n=5), two groups photoactivated with the devices used at the institution, the Biolux Plus (Bioart, São Carlos, Brazil) and the Optilight Max (Gnatus, Barretos, Brazil); and a control group using the Valo Grand Cordless device (Ultradent, Indaiatuba, Brazil), being submitted to the microhardness test after 24 hours. In microhardness, all specimens had higher means at the top, ~~ were higher in the control group and lower in the photoactivated group with Optilight Max, with a significant difference between the groups on each surface (p<0.001). The irradiance of most photo-activator devices evaluated (72.22%) was adequate for use, despite the noticeable need for maintenance, as 44.44% had resin material adhered to the tips and 38.89% with damaged tips. In general, the devices were suitable for use. The resins photoactivated by the different devices showed satisfactory microhardness in only one of the two light curing devices tested, highlighting the importance of periodic maintenance, as well as the need for clarification to students about their use.

Para ello, se evaluó la irradiancia de 18 dispositivos y sus condiciones de uso en cuanto a la integridad y desinfección de las puntas. Para el análisis de eficacia, se realizaron un total de 15 muestras (Ꝋ 6 mm x 2 mm) con resina compuesta Filtek Z250 (3M ESPE, St. Paul, MN, EE. UU.). Los cuerpos de evidencia se dividieron en 3 grupos (n = 5), siendo dos grupos fotoactivados con los dispositivos utilizados en la institución, el Biolux Plus (Bioart, São Carlos, Brasil) y el Optilight Max (Gnatus, Barretos, Brasil); y un grupo control utilizando el dispositivo Valo Grand Cordless (Ultradent, Indaiatuba, Brasil), sometido a la prueba de microdureza después de 24 horas. En microdureza, todos las muestras obtuvieron medias más altas en la parte superior, sin diferencias significativas entre la parte superior e inferior (p> 0.05). La media y la mediana fueron mayores en el grupo control y menores en el grupo fotoactivado con Optilight Max, observándose una diferencia significativa entre los grupos en cada superficie (p <0,001). La irradiancia de la mayoría de los fotoactivadores evaluados (72,22%) fue adecuada para su uso, a pesar de la notable necesidad de mantenimiento, ya que el 44,44% tenía material de resina adherido a las puntas y el 38,89% las puntas dañadas. En general, los dispositivos eran adecuados para su uso. Las resinas fotoactivadas por los diferentes dispositivos mostraron una microdureza satisfactoria en solo uno de los dos fotopolimerizables probados, destacando la importancia del mantenimiento periódico, así como la necesidad de instruir a los estudiantes sobre su correcto uso.O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar o estado geral dos diferentes aparelhos fotopolimerizadores utilizados em Clínica Escola de Odontologia da Uninassau-Recife/PE e sua eficácia na polimerização de resinas compostas. Os corpos de provas foram divididos em 3 grupos (n=5), sendo dois grupos fotoativados com os aparelhos utilizados na instituição, o Biolux Plus (Bioart, São Carlos, Brasil) e o Optilight Max (Gnatus, Barretos, Brasil); e um grupo (controle), utilizado o aparelho Valo Grand Cordless (Ultradent, Indaiatuba, Brasil), sendo submetidos ao teste de microdureza após 24h. Na microdureza, todos os corpos de prova apresentaram maiores médias no topo, sendo mais elevada no grupo controle e menores no grupo Optilight Max, com diferença significativa entre os grupos em cada superfície (p<0,001). A irradiância da maioria dos aparelhos fotoativadores avaliados (72,22%) estava adequada para utilização, apesar da perceptível necessidade de manutenção, pois 44,44% estavam com material resinoso aderido nas ponteiras e 38,89% com ponteiras danificadas. De forma geral, os aparelhos se encontravam apropriados para utilização.
