Intraprofessional conflicts of doctors and nurses: reflection on power in Michel Foucault

Resumo: Objective:  reflecting on relations of power as the cause of intraprofessional conflicts among doctors and nurses inside a hospital, regarding Michel Foucault as theoretical reference. Method: reflective theoretical study, anchored in the following items: 1) Michel Foucault, addressing power, knowledge and domain need; 2) intraprofessional relations, with emphasis on power and competence  in medicine and nursing; 3) power relations in a hospital  and the health system user as the focus. Result:  power and knowledge dynamics and the search for hierarchy by medical and nursing professionals in the hospital  within their respective field of study  might have negative repercussions on the outcome of health care. Conclusion: The understanding of power relations  according to Michel Foucault, who devoted much to the study of the hospital as an institution, might reveal intraprofessional conflicts, impacting on the quality of medical and nursing care to the  client of a hospital.

Método: estudio teórico reflexivo, anclado en los siguientes puntos: 1) Foucault, abordando poder, conocimiento y necesidad de dominio; 2) relaciones intraprofesionales, con énfasis en poder y conocimiento en la medicina y enfermería; 3) las relaciones de poder en el  hospital y el usuario del sistema de salud . Resultado: la dinámica de poder y conocimiento con la búsqueda de dominio por profesionales médicos y de enfermería en el  hospital dentro de sus respectivas áreas de actuación puede tener repercusiones negativas en el desenlace de la asistencia en salud. Conclusión: La comprensión de las relaciones de poder a partir de Foucault, que mucho se dedicó al estudio del hospital, como institución, puede desvelar conflictos intraprofesionales, impactando en la calidad del cuidado médico y de enfermería al usuario de unidades hospitalarias.Objetivo: refletir sobre relações de poderes como causa de conflitos intraprofissionais de médicos e enfermeiros no ambiente hospitalar, tendo Michel Foucault como referencial teórico. Método: estudo teórico reflexivo, baseado em revisão bibliográfica, ancorado nos seguintes itens: 1) Michel foucault, abordando poder, conhecimento e necessidade de domínio; 2)relações intraprofissionais, com ênfase em poder e conhecimento na medicina e enfermagem; 3) as relações de poder no ambiente hospitalar e o usuário do sistema de saúde como foco. Resultado: a dinâmica de poder e conhecimento com a busca de domínio por profissionais médicos e  enfermeiros no ambiente hospitalar dentro de suas respectivas áreas de atuação pode ter repercussões negativas no desfecho da assistência em saúde, quando o usuário é o foco.
