The impact of orthodontic treatment on the quality of life of patients with malocclusion

Resumo: Introduction: Dental malocclusion is an abnormal alignment of the teeth that impacts the quality of life of patients and treatment aims to reduce these impacts. Objective: to evaluate the implications of orthodontic treatment for the quality of life of patients. Methodology: this is an integrative literature review where searches for scientific evidence were carried out in the databases: Virtual Health Library, Scientific Electronic Library Online and PubMed, using the following descriptors: Malocclusion, Orthodontics and Quality of Life. Results: Initially, 559 articles were found and after applying the exclusion criteria, 7 articles were found that were suitable for the purposes of the study and with a satisfactory degree of scientific evidence. Conclusion: it is concluded that there is a real impact on the quality of life of patients with malocclusion treated orthodontically, both in aesthetic and functional demands.

Metodología: se trata de una revisión integrativa de la literatura donde se realizaron búsquedas de evidencia científica en las bases de datos: Virtual Health Library, Scientific Electronic Library Online y PubMed, utilizando los siguientes descriptores: Maloclusión, Ortodoncia y Calidad de Vida. Resultados: Inicialmente se encontraron 559 artículos y luego de aplicar los criterios de exclusión se encontraron 7 artículos adecuados a los objetivos del estudio y con un grado de evidencia científica satisfactorio. Conclusión: se concluye que existe un impacto real en la calidad de vida de los pacientes con maloclusión tratados con ortodoncia, tanto en la demanda estética como funcional.Introdução: A má oclusão dentária é um alinhamento anormal dos dentes que geram impactos na qualidade de vida dos pacientes e o tratamento tem como finalidade reduzir esses impactos. Objetivo: avaliar as implicações do tratamento ortodôntico para a qualidade de vida dos pacientes. Metodologia: trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura onde as buscas das evidências científicas foram realizadas nas bases de dados: Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, Scientfic Eletronic Library Online e PubMed, utilizando os seguintes descritores: Mal oclusão, Ortodontia e Qualidade de Vida. Resultados: Foram encontrados inicialmente 559 artigos e após aplicar os critérios de exclusão, chegou-se a 7 artigos que estavam adequados aos objetivos do estudo e com grau de evidência científica satisfatória.
