An interdisciplinary experience in Mathematics teaching: the construction of a pinhole camera in the 9th year of Elementary School

Resumo: This article deals with the report of an experiment carried out in three classes of the 9th grade of Elementary School, of a public school in the city of Rio de Janeiro. From the construction of pinhole camera by the students, we sought to associate the physical phenomenon with the teaching of mathematical concepts of homotetia and similarity of figures. After the stage of construction and observation, the students made reports to evaluate the activities. Throughout the experimental activity the participants presented different questions about the phenomenon observed, as well as perceived the correlation between similar figures and the concepts of geometric optics. Regarding student evaluation, in the reports they highlighted the importance of the proposed activity as a way to foster teamwork and the relevance of the practice to the teaching-learning process. Finally, it is noticed that the students' interest in the activity, as well as the construction of the concept based on the questions, showed the importance of the strategy adopted for the teaching of Mathematics.

A partir de la construcción de cuartos oscuros por parte de los estudiantes, se buscó asociar el fenómeno físico con la enseñanza de conceptos matemáticos de homotecia y semejanza de figuras. Luego de la etapa de construcción y observación, los estudiantes realizaron informes para evaluar las actividades. A lo largo de la actividad experimental, los participantes presentaron diferentes preguntas sobre el fenómeno observado, así como percibieron la correlación entre figuras similares y los conceptos de óptica geométrica. En cuanto a la evaluación de los estudiantes, en los informes destacaron la importancia de la actividad propuesta como forma de fomentar el trabajo en equipo y la relevancia de la práctica para el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje. Finalmente, se observa que el interés de los estudiantes por la actividad, así como la construcción del concepto a partir de las preguntas, demostró la importancia de la estrategia adoptada para la enseñanza de las Matemáticas.O presente artigo trata do relato de uma experiência realizada em sala de aula, durante a disciplina de Matemática em três turmas do 9º ano do Ensino Fundamental, de uma escola pública no Rio de Janeiro. A partir da construção de câmaras escuras pelos alunos, buscou-se associar o fenômeno físico ao ensino dos conceitos matemáticos de homotetia e semelhança de figuras. Após a etapa de construção e observação, os alunos fizeram relatórios para avaliarem as atividades. Ao longo da atividade experimental os participantes apresentaram diferentes questionamentos acerca do fenômeno observado, assim como perceberam a correlação entre as figuras semelhantes e os conceitos da óptica geométrica.
