Centenary of the Law of October 15, 1827: a place of memory

Resumo: This work aims to study the celebration of the centenary of the Law of October 15, 1827 in Rio Grande do Norte, based on the work of Nestor dos Santos Lima "A Century of Primary Education" and the Photo Album of the Historical Geographic Institute of Rio Grande do Norte: "Normal School" of 1927 that records the celebrations to the centenary of the Law, in the aforementioned State. The Law of 1827 instituted the public education in the country and determined that in all cities, towns and places more populous there would be as many schools of first letters were necessary. This research deals with a study of bibliographical and documentary revision, considering for the analysis the theoretical understandings of Nora on the places of memory and Le Goff about document-monument. In the process of understanding and investigating the study objective, we ask ourselves: how did the celebration of the centenary of the Law of October 15, 1827 in Rio Grande do Norte? Or, what was the purpose of Rio Grande do Norte in celebrating the centennial of the Law of October 15, 1827, since the work cited above was produced by order of the State itself? The partial results of the research indicate that this celebration constitutes a place of memory, placing the figure of Nestor dos Santos Lima at the center of the education history of Rio Grande do Norte, while producing a demarcation for the field of education, more specifically in primary education.

La Ley de 1827 instituyó la educación pública en el país y determinó que en todas las ciudades, pueblos y lugares más populosos habría cuantas escuelas de primeras letras fueran necesarias. Esta investigación trata de un estudio de revisión bibliográfica y documental, considerando para el análisis los entendimientos teóricos de Nora sobre los lugares de memoria y Le Goff acerca de documento-monumento. En el proceso de comprensión e investigación del objetivo de estudio, se cuestiona: ¿cómo ocurrió la celebración del centenario de la Ley del 15 de octubre de 1827 en Rio Grande do Norte? O, ¿cuál fue el objetivo del Río Grande del Norte en celebrar el centenario de la Ley de 15 de octubre de 1827, una vez que la obra citada arriba fue producida por encargo del propio Estado? Los resultados parciales de la investigación indican que esta celebración constituye un lugar de memoria, poniendo la figura del Nestor de los Santos Lima en el centro de la historia de la educación de Rio Grande do Norte, al mismo tiempo que produce una demarcación para el campo de la educación, más específicamente en la enseñanza primaria.Neste trabalho, busca-se estudar a celebração do centenário da Lei de 15 de outubro de 1827 no Rio Grande do Norte a partir da obra de Nestor dos Santos Lima “Um século de ensino primário” e do Álbum de Fotografias do Instituto Histórico Geográfico do Rio Grande do Norte: “Escola Normal” de 1927 que registra as comemorações ao centenário da Lei, no supracitado Estado. A Lei de 1827 instituiu a educação pública no país e determinou que em todas as cidades, vilas e lugares mais populosos haveria quantas escolas de primeiras letras fossem necessárias. Esta pesquisa trata de um estudo de revisão bibliográfica e documental, considerando para a análise os entendimentos teóricos de Nora sobre os lugares de memória e Le Goff acerca de documento-monumento. No processo de compreensão e investigação do objetivo de estudo, questiona-se: como ocorreu a celebração do centenário da Lei de 15 de outubro de 1827 no Rio Grande do Norte? Ou ainda, qual foi o objetivo do Rio Grande do Norte em celebrar o centenário da Lei de 15 de Outubro de 1827, uma vez que a obra citada acima foi produzida por encomenda do próprio Estado?
