Resumo: Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious and contagious disease transmitted by a bacterium known as Koch's bacillus, scientifically called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is one of the oldest infectious diseases, and although preventable and curable, it still remains a major public health problem today. The nursing professional is at greater risk of exposure to communicable diseases, and this increases when performing invasive procedures, for this reason the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is recommended. The objective of this work is to report the experience from the clinical practices in the nursing offices, which treated patients with pulmonary tuberculosis correlating to the negligence observed by nursing students, performed by health professionals, regarding the incorrect use of PPE's. This is a descriptive study, with a qualitative approach, such as an experience report, carried out in a Basic Health Unit (BHU) in Belém, after experiencing compulsory curricular practices. Although the structure of the place is appropriate, with ventilation and natural lighting, with adequate windows, and with a standing fan in the consultation room directing the air to an external environment, the use of masks is done inappropriately, when used , during the consultation. TB cases according to the National Tuberculosis Fight Program are 84.8 cases per 100,000 professionals. Therefore, there is a need for training aimed at these professionals for effective TB prevention in health facilities, in order to reduce the incidence of tuberculosis cases.
