Epidemiological profile of confirmed cases and death by COVID-19 notified in Munhoz de Mello-Paraná

Resumo: | This study aimed to identify the epidemiological profile of confirmed cases and deaths from COVID-19 reported in Munhoz de Mello-Paraná, in the years 2020 and 2021. This is a descriptive study, with a quantitative approach, carried out from the analysis of confirmed cases and deaths by COVID-19 notified from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2021, in Munhoz de Mello-PR. The data were extracted from the COVID-19 Notify System, under the domain of the Epidemiological Surveillance of that municipality. After collection, the data were analyzed in absolute and relative frequency for an exploratory analysis. In the investigated period, 538 cases of COVID-19 were reported with the highest incidence in March 2021 (18.02%). There was a prevalence of females (54.27%) and the age group most affected was between 21 and 40 years old (40.88%). The most common symptoms were cough (50.37%), headache (47.95%) and myalgia (40.52%), with emphasis on the comorbidities hypertension (9.66%) and diabetes (4.83%) existing. Nine deaths (1.67%) were reported and of these, 55.55% were women and 77.77% were in individuals aged 61 years or older. The findings of this study revealed the epidemiological profile of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths in the field of study and suggest that economically active women were more affected by SARSCoV-2. Regarding deaths, an incidence of one death was identified for every 59 confirmed cases, most of them in elderly women, with comorbidity and need for hospitalization. |

Se trata de un estudio descriptivo, con abordaje cuantitativo, realizado a partir de la análisis de casos confirmados y defunciones por COVID-19 notificados del 1 de enero de 2020 al 31 de diciembre de 2021, en Munhoz de Mello-PR. Los datos fueron extraídos del Sistema Notificar COVID-19, bajo el dominio de la Vigilancia Epidemiológica de ese municipio. Después de recolección, los datos fueron analizados en frecuencia absoluta y relativa para un análisis exploratorio. En el período investigado se notificaron 538 casos de COVID-19, con la mayor incidencia en marzo de 2021 (18,02%). Hubo predominio del sexo femenino (54,27%) y el grupo de edad más afectado fue el de 21 a 40 años (40,88%). Los síntomas más frecuentes fueron tos (50,37%), cefalea (47,95%) y mialgias (40,52%), con énfasis en las comorbilidades hipertensión (9,66%) y diabetes (4,83%) existentes. Nueve muertes (1,67%) fueron reportadas y de estas, 55,55% fueron mujeres y 77,77% fueron personas de 61 años o más. Los hallazgos de este estudio revelaron el perfil epidemiológico de los casos confirmados de COVID-19 y las muertes en el campo de estudio y sugieren que las mujeres económicamente activas fueron más afectadas por el SARSCoV-2. No período investigado foram notificados 538 casos de COVID-19, com maior incidência em março de 2021 (18,02%). Houve prevalência do sexo feminino (54,27%) e a faixa etária mais acometida foi entre 21 a 40 anos (40,88%). Os sintomas mais comuns foram tosse (50,37%), cefaléia (47,95%) e mialgia (40,52%), com destaque às comorbidades hipertensão (9,66%) e diabetes (4,83%) pré-existentes. Foram notificados nove óbitos (1,67%) e destes, 55,55% eram mulheres e 77,77% foi em indivíduos com 61 anos ou mais. Os achados desse estudo revelaram o perfil epidemiológico dos casos confirmados e óbitos por COVID-19 do campo de estudo e sugerem que mulheres economicamente ativas foram mais acometidas pelo SARSCoV-2.
