Resumo: | The Integrative and Complementary Practices in Health (PICS) represent a set of therapeutic systems that use technologies that aim at the prevention of diseases and the recovery of health. These practices contribute to reducing public spending and the use of services of the Sistema Único de Saúde. Given the relevance of PICS, this study aimed to characterize the perception and use of PICS by brazilians of Southern region. This is an observational, cross-sectional study carried out through the application of a questionnaire with semi-structured questions about the sociodemographic profile of individuals and aspects that cover the use of PICS in Southern Brazil. Descriptive frequency statistics were used to describe the results. The Chi-square test was also used to test possible associations between variables. The study had 213 participants, most of them female and between 18 and 25 years old. Most participants recognize the benefits of using PICS, however, they are not in the habit of using them. The relevance of disseminating PICS among the population is highlighted, as well as their benefits encouraging their use and health promotion. |

Estas prácticas contribuyen a la reducción del gasto público y al uso de los servicios del Sistema Único de Salud. Dada la relevancia de las PICS, este estudio tuvo como objectivo caracterizar la percepción y el uso de las PICS por los habitantes de la región Sur de Brasil. Se trata de un estudio observacional y transversal realizado mediante la aplicación de un cuestionario con preguntas semiestructuradas sobre el perfil sociodemográfico de los individuos y aspectos que abarcan el uso de las PICS en el Sur de Brasil. Se utilizaron estadísticas de frecuencia descriptivas para describir los resultados. La prueba de Chi-cuadrado también se utilizó para probar posibles asociaciones entre variables. El estudio incluyó a 213 participantes, la mayoría de ellos mujeres y entre 18 y 25 años de edad. La mayoría de los participantes reconocen los beneficios en el uso de PICS, sin embargo, no tienen el hábito de usarlos. Destacamos la relevancia de la difusión de las PICS a la población, así como sus beneficios fomentando su uso y promoción de la salud.As Práticas Integrativas e Complementares em Saúde (PICS) representam um conjunto de sistemas terapêuticos que utilizam tecnologias que visam à prevenção de agravos e a recuperação da saúde. Essas práticas contribuem na redução dos gastos públicos e do uso dos serviços do Sistema Único de Saúde. Diante da relevância das PICS, este estudo teve como objetivo caracterizar a percepção e o uso das PICS pelos residentes do Sul do Brasil. Trata-se de um estudo observacional e transversal realizado por meio da aplicação de um questionário com perguntas semiestruturadas acerca do perfil sociodemográfico dos indivíduos e aspectos que abrangem o uso das PICS no Sul do Brasil. Foram utilizadas estatísticas descritivas de frequência para descrever os resultados. Também foi utilizado o teste Chi-quadrado para testar possíveis associações entre variáveis. O estudo contou com 213 participantes, sendo a maioria do sexo feminino e com entre 18 e 25 anos. A maioria dos participantes reconhece os benefícios na utilização das PICS, contudo, não têm o hábito de utilizá-las.
