Resumo: | Objective: To analyze official data on hospitalizations for asthma in pediatric patients in the State of Sergipe in the period between 2010 and January 2022 with the purpose of detailing both the profile of care as well as the impacts involved within the socioeconomic context in addition to allow a comparative view between the other states of the Northeast Region. Methods: The present study consists of a retrospective, longitudinal, descriptive and quantitative analysis based on data extracted from the Brazilian government platform DataSUS, whose variables addressed include hospitalizations for asthma, deaths, sex and age group from 0 to 19 years. Results: In the period studied, 11,540 cases of hospitalization of pediatric patients due to asthma were observed in the State of Sergipe. The profile of hospitalized patients with the age group with the highest hospitalization rate was 1 to 4 years old, reaching 5,836, which represents around 50% of the total number of cases. The death record reveals a value of 189 in the entire Northeast Region and the State of Sergipe is responsible for 11 deaths. The highest number of deaths was found in the states of Bahia and Pernambuco. Conclusion: Despite the progressive reduction behavior being observed throughout the Brazilian territory, the Northeast Region still concentrates the largest number of hospitalizations caused by asthma, even with the existence of adequate therapy. |
