Risks of disruption in the açaí supply chain in the view of managers in the State of Pará

Resumo: | The growing demand for food makes agribusiness an impressive sector in the Brazilian and world economy. But despite this vigorous growth over the years, the agribusiness supply chain faces constant risks of disruption due to the inherent challenges of food and fruit culture. The objective of this research was to identify and describe the preeminent risks of rupture in the açaí supply chain, from the perspective of managers of companies in the State of Pará that works with extraction, processing, commercialization, and support to managers of companies that work with açaí. The methodological approach applied was qualitative research through multiple case studies using semi-structured interviews. As a result, this research developed a framework with 22 risks of disruption in the food supply chain, consolidated into 13 groups. The evidence analysis demonstrated a high vulnerability in the açaí supply chain, since all the risks mapped applies to the açaí chain, except for the risk related to antibiotic/agro toxic and demand. It was also possible to identify that managers are aware of the vulnerability of the açaí supply chain but do not use any risk management method or process. |

El objetivo de esta investigación fue identificar y describir los principales riesgos de ruptura en la cadena de suministro de açaí, desde la perspectiva de los gerentes de empresas del Estado de Pará que trabajan en la extracción, procesamiento, comercialización y apoyo a los gerentes de empresas que trabajan con açaí. El enfoque metodológico utilizado fue la investigación cualitativa, utilizando estudios de casos múltiples mediante entrevistas semiestructuradas. Como resultado, esta investigación desarrolló un marco compuesto por 22 riesgos de ruptura en la cadena de suministro de alimentos, consolidados en 13 grupos. El análisis de evidencias demostró una alta vulnerabilidad en la cadena de suministro del açaí, ya que todos los riesgos mapeados son aplicables a la cadena del açaí, con la excepción del riesgo relacionado con el uso de antibióticos/agroquímico, y de la demanda. También se pudo identificar que los gestores son conscientes de la vulnerabilidad de la cadena de suministro del açaí, pero no utilizan ningún método o proceso de gestión de riesgos.A demanda crescente por alimentos torna o agronegócio um setor pujante na economia brasileira e mundial, mas a despeito desse vigoroso crescimento ao longo dos anos, a cadeia de suprimento do agronegócio enfrenta riscos de ruptura constantes, devido os desafios inerentes da cultura dos alimentos e da fruticultura. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi identificar e descrever os principais riscos de ruptura na cadeia de suprimentos do açaí, na perspectiva de gestores de empresas do Estado do Pará que atuam na extração, beneficiamento, comercialização e suporte aos gestores de empresas que trabalham com o açaí. A abordagem metodológica utilizada foi pesquisa qualitativa por meio de estudo de casos múltiplos através de entrevista semiestruturada. Como resultado, esta pesquisa desenvolveu um framework composto de 22 riscos de ruptura na cadeia de suprimentos dos alimentos, consolidados em 13 grupos. A análise das evidências demonstrou alta vulnerabilidade na cadeia de suprimentos do açaí, uma vez que todos os riscos mapeados são aplicáveis à cadeia do açaí, com exceção do risco relativo ao uso de antibiótico/agrotóxico, e de demanda.
