Resumo: | Objective: to know the nurses’ experience in the implementation of the competence-based performance evaluation system in a hospital institution. Method: descriptive, qualitative study, developed with 20 nurses from a hospital. The data was collected between November and December 2018, through semi-structured interviews, and were subjected to thematic content analysis. Results: Three categories emerged: management by competencies, considerations about implantation in the institution; the evaluation process from the perspective of nurses, inherent understandings; and, competency-based performance evaluation, impacts perceived by nurses on nursing technicians. Conclusion: Competency-based performance evaluation applied in the context of the nursing service in a hospital, favors the development of nurses as team managers and contributes to the planning and proposition of plans for the development of skills in nursing technicians, reflecting on quality and safety of patient care. |

Resultados: surgieron tres categorías: gestión por competencias, consideraciones sobre la implantación en la institución; el proceso de evaluación desde la perspectiva de las enfermeras, entendimientos inherentes; y evaluación del desempeño por habilidades, impactos percibidos por las enfermeras en los técnicos de enfermería. Conclusión: La evaluación del desempeño por competencias aplicadas en el contexto del servicio de enfermería, en una institución hospitalaria, favorece el desarrollo de las enfermeras como jefes de equipo y contribuye a la planificación y propuesta de planes para el desarrollo de competencias en técnicos de enfermería, reflejándose en el calidad y seguridad de la atención al paciente.Objetivo: Conhecer a experiência de enfermeiros na implantação do sistema de avaliação de desempenho por competências em uma instituição hospitalar. Método: Estudo descritivo, qualitativo, desenvolvido com 20 enfermeiros de uma instituição hospitalar. Os dados, coletados entre novembro e dezembro de 2018, por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas, foram submetidos à análise de conteúdo temática. Resultados: Emergiram três categorias: gestão por competências, considerações acerca da implantação na instituição; o processo avaliativo sob a óptica dos enfermeiros, compreensões inerentes; e, avaliação de desempenho por competências, impactos percebidos pelos enfermeiros nos técnicos de enfermagem.
