Perception of the Multiprofessional Team on the Occupational Therapist's Performance in the Intensive Care Unit

Resumo: Objective: This study aims to understand the perception of the multidisciplinary team of the intensive care unit about the role of the occupational therapist as part of the team and what is the understanding of these professionals about their work with the patient and their families. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional, qualitative study, carried out in an intensive care unit of a University Hospital, in the Metropolitan Region of Recife, with 14 employees of the unit. Interviews were conducted with participants about the knowledge about Occupational Therapy and its performance in the service. Results: From the analysis of the speeches of the participants, the categories were listed: Functionality, Daily Life Activity, Cognition, Family, Activity/Resource, Communication and Team, which have a direct connection to the occupational therapist in this space. Conclusion: Despite the still small visibility of the action of occupational therapy professionals in the intensive care unit, the other professionals who make up the team of this unit, expressed their perception of the performance of this professional from the use of the activity, aiming at the subject's functionality and independence, in their return to daily activities, minimizing the possible cognitive and physical sequelae.

Metodología: Se trata de un estudio transversal, cualitativo, realizado en una unidad de cuidados intensivos de un Hospital Universitario, en la Región Metropolitana de Recife, con 14 empleados de la unidad. Se realizaron entrevistas a los participantes sobre los conocimientos sobre Terapia Ocupacional y su desempeño en el servicio. Resultados: A partir del análisis de los discursos de los participantes se enumeraron las categorías: Funcionalidad, Actividad de la Vida Diaria, Cognición, Familia, Actividad/Recurso, Comunicación y Equipo, las cuales tienen una conexión directa con la ocupación del terapeuta ocupacional en este espacio. Conclusión: A pesar de la aún escasa visibilidad de la actuación de los profesionales de terapia ocupacional en la unidad de cuidados intensivos, el resto de profesionales que integran el equipo de esta unidad, expresaron su percepción del desempeño de este profesional desde el uso de la actividad, apuntando a la funcionalidad e independencia del sujeto, en su retorno a las actividades diarias, minimizando las posibles secuelas cognitivas y físicas.Objetivo: Este estudo tem como objetivo conhecer a percepção da equipe multiprofissional da unidade de terapia intensiva acerca da atuação do terapeuta ocupacional como parte da equipe e qual a compreensão desses profissionais sobre sua atuação junto ao paciente e seus familiares. Metodologia: Trata-se de um estudo transversal, qualitativo, realizado em uma unidade de terapia intensiva de um Hospital Universitário, na Região Metropolitana de Recife, com 14 funcionários da unidade. Foram realizadas entrevistas com os participantes sobre os conhecimentos acerca da Terapia Ocupacional e sua atuação no serviço. Resultados: A partir da análise dos discursos dos participantes foram elencadas as categorias: Funcionalidade, Atividade de Vida Diária, Cognição, Família, Atividade/Recurso, Comunicação e Equipe, as quais apresentam ligação direta ao fazer do terapeuta ocupacional neste espaço.
