Resumo: Introduction: Syphilis case have increased in Brazil. This disease is caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum, it can be transmitted by sex, by parenteral and vertical pathways. Thus, the role of the dentist i salso essential, and you must be aware of the symptoms and orofacial signs that may appear in your office. Objective: to describe the epidemiological profile of syphilis in Brazil, to know its distribution according to the year of diagnosis and the gender of the patients, to verify the relationship between congenital syphilis and the mother's socioeconomic factors, adherence to prenatal care and to discuss the role of dentist against syphilis. Methods: Descriptive observational study, with data from DATASUS, related to acquired syphilis and congenital syphilis in the period 2014-2018. Results: The detection rate of acquired syphilis has increased over the years in the country; The percentage of acquired syphilis was higher in males in all years analyzed; In the period studied (2014-2018), the highest percentage of congenital syphilis occurred from mothers aged 20 to 29 years. Conclusion: Syphilis is a major public health problem, with a significant increase in notifications, even though there have been major advances in relation to prevention and treatment. Therefore, greater interest on the part of public policies is necessary for the creation of preventive and protective campaigns and health promotion, as well as a greater role for the dentist in the face of this problem.

Objetivo: describir el perfil epidemiológico de la sífilis en Brasil, conocer su distribución según el año de diagnóstico y el género de los pacientes, verificar la relación entre la sífilis congénita y los factores socioeconómicos de la madre, la adherencia a la atención prenatal y discutir el papel de dentista contra la sífilis. Métodos: Estudio observacional descriptivo, con datos de DATASUS, relacionados con sífilis adquirida y sífilis congénita en el período 2014-2018. Resultados: La tasa de detección de sífilis adquirida ha aumentado con los años en el país; El porcentaje de sífilis adquirida fue mayor en los hombres en todos los años analizados; En el período estudiado (2014-2018), el mayor porcentaje de sífilis congénita ocurrió en madres de 20 a 29 años. Conclusión: la sífilis es un importante problema de salud pública, con un aumento significativo en las notificaciones, a pesar de que ha habido avances importantes en relación con la prevención y el tratamiento. Por lo tanto, es necesario un mayor interés por parte de las políticas públicas para la creación de campañas preventivas y protectoras y la promoción de la salud, así como un mayor papel del dentista ante este problema.Introdução: Os casos de sífilis têm aumentado no Brasil. Essa doença é causada pela bactéria Treponema pallidum e pode ser transmitida pelas vias sexual, parenteral e vertical. Assim, o papel do dentista também é essencial, devendo estar atento aos sintomas e sinais orofaciais que podem aparecer em seu consultório. Objetivo: Este estudo tem por objetivo descrever o perfil epidemiológico da sífilis no Brasil, conhecer sua distribuição segundo o ano de diagnóstico e o sexo dos pacientes, verificar a relação entre a sífilis congênita e os fatores socioeconômicos da mãe, a adesão ao pré-natal e discutir o papel do dentista frente a sífilis. Métodos: Estudo descritivo observacional, com dados provenientes do DATASUS, relacionados à sífilis adquirida e a sífilis congênita no período de 2014-2018. Resultados: A taxa de detecção da sífilis adquirida aumentou com o passar dos anos no país; O percentual de sífilis adquirida foi maior no sexo masculino em todos os anos analisados; No período estudado (2014-2018), o maior percentual de sífilis congênita ocorreu proveniente de mães na faixa etária entre 20 a 29 anos. Conclusão: A sífilis é um grande agravo na saúde pública, com aumento significativo de notificações, mesmo havendo grandes avanços em relação a prevenção e tratamento.
