Resumo: Aim: correlate the level of physical disability with pain, balance and gait in elderly with chronic low back pain. Method: observational study conducted at the Catholic University of Pernambuco. Initially, a lecture was held on the objectives of the study and after signing the Informed Consent Form, sociodemographic data were collected; assessment of the level of physical disability due to pain through Roland-Morris and Oswestry; Pain intensity by visual analog scale (VAS); Balance by Berg Balance Scale and Risk of Tinetti Fall. Results: the sample consisted of 20 elderly, with female predominance (80%), average age of 70.95 ± 6.08 years. There was a significant correlation between physical disability pain level, balance level and risk of falling. Conclusion: It was possible to show in the elderly with low back pain, an association between the questionnaires that assess physical disability. It can be concluded that there was a significant correlation between the level of physical disability with pain intensity and gait. In addition, the relevance of using assessment instruments for the development of therapeutic strategies aimed at autonomy and independence of the elderly person's health is also emphasized.

Método: estudio observacional en hombres y mujeres ancianos con diagnóstico de lumbalgia crónica. Inicialmente se dio una charla sobre los objetivos del estudio y luego de firmar el Formulario de Consentimiento Libre e Informado se recolectaron datos sociodemográficos; evaluación del nivel de discapacidad física resultante del dolor utilizando Roland-Morris y Oswestry; Intensidad del dolor por escala analógica visual (EVA); Equilibrio de la balanza de Berg y Riesgo de caída de Tinetti. Resultados: la muestra estuvo conformada por 20 ancianos, predominantemente mujeres (80%), con una edad promedio de 70,95 ± 6,08 años. Hubo una correlación significativa entre el nivel de discapacidad física con el dolor, el nivel de equilibrio y la marcha. Conclusión: se pudo evidenciar en ancianos con lumbalgia una asociación entre los cuestionarios que evalúan la discapacidad física. También hubo una correlación significativa entre el nivel de discapacidad física con la intensidad del dolor y la marcha. Además, destaca la relevancia del uso de herramientas de evaluación para el desarrollo de estrategias terapéuticas orientadas a la autonomía e independencia de la salud de las personas mayores.Objetivo: correlacionar o nível de incapacidade física com a dor, o equilíbrio e a marcha em idosos com lombalgia crônica. Método: estudo do tipo observacional em idosos de ambos os sexos com lombalgia crônica diagnosticada. Inicialmente foi realizado uma palestra sobre os objetivos do estudo e após assinatura do Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido foi realizado a coleta de dados sociodemográfico; avaliação do nível de incapacidade física decorrente da dor através do Roland-Morris e Oswestry; Intensidade da dor pela escala visual analógica (EVA); Equilíbrio pela Escala de equilíbrio de Berg e Risco de queda pela Tinetti. Resultados: a amostra foi constituída por 20 idosos, com predominância feminina (80%), média de idade de 70,95 ± 6,08 anos. Houve correlação significativa entre nível de incapacidade física com dor, nível de equilíbrio e marcha. Conclusão: Foi possível evidenciar nos idosos com lombalgia, associação entre os questionários que avaliam incapacidade física. Também houve correlação significativa entre o nível de incapacidade física com intensidade da dor e com a marcha.
