Facilities and difficulties in communication between health professionals and hospitalized patients: patient's perception

Resumo: | Objective: Identify the facilitating and hindering factors for communication with health professionals, from the perspective of hospitalized patients, in the Medical Clinic, and to describe these patients' expectations regarding the communication between them and the health professionals, during hospitalization. Methods: descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The research involved 13 patients hospitalized in the Internal Medicine sector of a Teaching Hospital in Minas Gerais. Data collection took place through semi-structured audio interviews recorded between December/2019 and January/2020. Data analysis followed the Content Analysis, thematic modality. Results: three thematic categories emerged: Unpreparedness of the health professional, lack of dialogue and fragile reception; A horizontal and dialogical relationship between health professionals and patients favors communication and the patient's perspectives in relation to communication with health professionals during hospitalization. The thematic categories revealed the perceptions of patients, hospitalized in the Medical Clinic, regarding the facilitating aspects and difficulties of their communication with health professionals, as well as their expectations regarding this communicational process. Final Considerations: respect, dialogue, acceptance and attention are fundamental to the basis of an effective communication. However, the lack of them constitutes a barrier, impacting the relationship of trust between health professionals and patients. |

Métodos: estudio descriptivo con abordaje cualitativo. La investigación involucró a 13 pacientes internados en el sector de Medicina Interna de un Hospital Universitario de Minas Gerais. La recolección de datos ocurrió a través de entrevistas en audio semiestructuradas grabadas entre diciembre/2019 y enero/2020. El análisis de datos siguió el Análisis de Contenido, modalidad temática. Resultados: surgieron tres categorías temáticas: Falta de preparación del profesional de salud, falta de diálogo y recepción frágil; Una relación horizontal y dialógica entre los profesionales de la salud y los pacientes favorece la comunicación y las perspectivas del paciente en relación a la comunicación con los profesionales de la salud durante la hospitalización. Las categorías temáticas revelaron las percepciones de los pacientes, hospitalizados en la Clínica Médica, sobre los aspectos facilitadores y dificultades de su comunicación con los profesionales de la salud, así como sus expectativas sobre ese proceso comunicacional. Consideraciones finales: el respeto, el diálogo, la aceptación y la atención son fundamentales para la base de una comunicación eficaz. Sin embargo, la carencia de los mismos constituye una barrera, impactando la relación de confianza entre los profesionales de la salud y los pacientes.Objetivo: Identificar os fatores facilitadores e dificultadores para a comunicação com profissionais de saúde, na perspectiva de pacientes internados, na Clínica Médica, e descrever expectativas destes pacientes quanto à comunicação entre eles e os profissionais de saúde, durante a internação hospitalar. Métodos: estudo descritivo, com abordagem qualitativa. A pesquisa contou com 13 pacientes internados no setor de Clínica Médica de um Hospital de Ensino de Minas Gerais. A coleta de dados ocorreu por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas áudio gravadas entre dezembro/2019 e janeiro/2020. Análise de dados seguiu a Análise de Conteúdo, modalidade temática. Resultados: emergiram três categorias temáticas: Despreparo do profissional de saúde, falta de diálogo e acolhimento frágil; Relação horizontal e dialógica entre profissional de saúde-paciente favorece a comunicação e Perspectivas do paciente em relação à comunicação com os profissionais de saúde, durante sua internação. As categorias temáticas revelaram as percepções dos pacientes, internados na Clínica Médica, quanto os aspectos facilitadores e dificuldades da sua comunicação junto aos profissionais de saúde, bem como suas expectativas quanto a esse processo comunicacional. Considerações Finais: respeito, diálogo, acolhimento e atenção são fundamentais para a base de uma comunicação efetiva.
