Use of vegetation indexes to determine the life cycle extension of bamboo in a fragment located in the eastern region of Acre

Resumo: The objective of the study was to monitor and determine the bamboo life cycle of the genus Guadua sp. in a fragment located in Senador Guiomard – AC, through the application of vegetation indices. The NDVI, EVI and SAVI indexes were obtained and evaluated using images from Landsat 5, 7 and 8 satellites, from 1989 to 2021, acquired and processed through the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform. In the period 1990-1991, NDVI values ranging between 0.2 and 0.4 were found, and negative values for the period 2020-2021, indicating scarcity of vegetation. The results obtained for EVI and SAVI indicate a significant variation when the bamboo was mature and demonstrate the occurrence of two mortality events in the bamboo population, for the same period. The analysis of vegetation indices indicated the occurrence of two population mortality events occurring between 1990 to 1991 and 2020 to 2021, confirmed by the occurrence of the most abrupt variations in the values of the vegetation indices, verified in the generated graphs and maps, being able to infer a period of 29 years for the life cycle of this population.

Los índices NDVI, EVI y SAVI se obtuvieron y evaluaron utilizando imágenes de los satélites Landsat 5, 7 y 8, desde 1989 hasta 2021, adquiridas y procesadas a través de la plataforma Google Earth Engine (GEE). En el periodo 1990-1991 se encontraron valores de NDVI que oscilan entre 0,2 y 0,4, y valores negativos para el periodo 2020-2021, indicando escasez de vegetación. Los resultados obtenidos para EVI y SAVI indican una variación significativa cuando el bambú estaba maduro y demuestran la ocurrencia de dos eventos de mortalidad en la población de bambú, para el mismo período. El análisis de los índices de vegetación indicó la ocurrencia de dos eventos de mortalidad poblacional ocurridos entre 1990 a 1991 y 2020 a 2021, confirmados por la ocurrencia de las variaciones más abruptas en los valores de los índices de vegetación, verificados en los gráficos y mapas generados, pudiendo inferir un periodo de 29 años para el ciclo de vida de esta población.O objetivo do estudo foi monitorar e determinar a duração do ciclo de vida do bambu do gênero Guadua sp. em um fragmento localizado em Senador Guiomard – AC, através da aplicação de índices de vegetação. Foram obtidos e avaliados os índices NDVI, EVI e SAVI onde para isso foram utilizadas imagens provenientes de satélites Landsat 5, 7 e 8, do período de 1989 a 2021, adquiridas e processadas através da plataforma Google Earth Engine (GEE). No período de 1990-1991 foram constatados valores de NDVI variando entre 0,2 e 0,4 e valores negativos para o período de 2020-2021, indicando escassez da vegetação. Os resultados obtidos para EVI e SAVI indicam uma variação significativa quando o bambu estava maduro e demonstram a ocorrência de dois eventos de mortalidade da população de bambu, para o mesmo período.
