Resumo: The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of phenotype on the reproductive efficiency of sheep and the performance of lambs from birth to weaning. were used of 111 adult Corriedale ewes (54 natural colored and 57 white), kept in natural pasture, supplemented in the final third of gestation and grazed in improved natural pasture after birth. The matings were performed by artificial insemination and controlled mount. After birth, the lambs were weighed at mean intervals of 28 days and weaned at a mean age of 146 days. The experimental design was the entirely randomized, where each sheep represented an experimental unit. The continuous response variables were submitted to analysis of variance and the discrete ones to the Chi-square test. The weight and body condition before mating the sheep, the percentages of pregnancy, calving, gemiparity and losses during gestation, the weight of lambs at birth and the mortality rate until weaning did not differ between groups (P>0.05). White Corriedale ewes presented higher weaning rate of lambs (P<0.05). The phenotype (maternal and filial) influenced the average daily weight gain and weight at weaning (P<0.05). The naturally colored phenotype of sheep or lambs determines greater weaning weights, regardless of the coloring of the mother.

Research, Society and Development2022-03-31info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/2676310.33448/rsd-v11i5.26763Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 No. 5; e11911526763Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 Núm. 5; e11911526763Research, Society and Development; v. 11 n. 5; e119115267632525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/26763/24387Copyright (c) 2022 Pablo Tavares Costa; Gilson de Mendonça; Ricardo Zambarda Vaz; Larissa Picada Brum; Maurício Prestes Bragagnollo; Thiago Pereira Vieirahttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessCosta, Pablo Tavares Mendonça, Gilson de Vaz, Ricardo Zambarda Brum, Larissa Picada Bragagnollo, Maurício Prestes Vieira, Thiago Pereira 2022-04-17T18:18:56Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/26763Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:44:43.341779Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
