Music therapy and breastfeeding: representation of mothers of premature babies

Resumo: | Objective: To apprehend the maternal representations regarding music therapy and breastfeeding of premature children. Method: This is a qualitative study, based on the Theory of Social Representations. The study setting was the Intermediate Care Unit of a university hospital in northern Paraná. The collection took place from July to August 2021, mothers of newborns with a gestational age of less than 34 weeks, and who were breastfeeding in the first seven days of life, participated in this study. Data were analyzed using the methodological framework of the Collective Subject Discourse. Results: From the analysis of the speeches of the 15 participating mothers, three central ideas emerged:): CI1) Breastfeeding is giving life, CI2) Escaping reality through music and CI3) Music interfering with communication with the child. Conclusion of the study: Music therapy can bring benefits to the breastfeeding of premature babies, however, the help of a trained professional is needed for this intervention, thus avoiding iatrogenic events. |

Método: Se trata de un estudio cualitativo, basado en la Teoría de las Representaciones Sociales. El escenario del estudio fue la Unidad de Cuidados Intermedios de un hospital universitario en el norte de Paraná. La colecta se realizó de julio a agosto de 2021, de este estudio participaron madres de recién nacidos con edad gestacional menor de 34 semanas, y que estaban amamantando en los primeros siete días de vida. Los datos fueron analizados utilizando el marco metodológico del Discurso del Sujeto Colectivo. Resultados: Del análisis de los discursos de las 15 madres participantes surgieron tres ideas centrales: CI1) Amamantar es dar vida, CI2) Escapar de la realidad a través de la música y CI3) La música interfiere en la comunicación con el niño. Conclusión del estudio: La musicoterapia puede traer beneficios para la lactancia materna de los prematuros, sin embargo, se necesita la ayuda de un profesional capacitado para esta intervención, evitando así eventos iatrogénicos.Objetivo: Apreender as representações maternas frente à musicoterapia e o aleitamento do filho prematuro. Método: Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, fundamentado na Teoria das Representações Sociais. O cenário de estudo foi a Unidade de Cuidados Intermediários de um hospital universitário no norte do Paraná. A coleta ocorreu no período de julho à agosto de 2021, participaram deste estudo mães de recém-nascidos com idade gestacional menor que 34 semanas, e que estavam em amamentação nos primeiros sete dias de vida. Os dados foram analisados por meio do referencial metodológico do Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo. Resultados: A partir da análise dos discursos das 15 mães participantes emergiram três ideias centrais:): IC1) Amamentar é dar vida, IC2) Fugindo da realidade através da música e IC3) A música interferindo na comunicação com o filho.
