However, university professors find it difficult to adapt to such rapid changes. Consequently, the mental health of these professionals has been impaired. Objective: discuss the etiological factors, as well as the symptoms and disorders inherent to the mental health of university professors, submitted to unhealthy working conditions, within the scope of COVID-19. Method: a narrative bibliographic review was carried out with scientific articles published between 2017 and 2020. The SciELO, PubMed and BVS databases were used; the descriptors were "Mental health", "University", "Teachers", "Teachers", "Working conditions" and "COVID-19", with Boolean operator "and". Results: teachers' working conditions are precarious and suffer from precarious conditions. in addition, it is alerted to the fact that the causes of the latter involve COVID-19 and austerity policies. It is added that there are relations between class and sex, when it comes to mental suffering in university teachers. Conclusion: both the pandemic and the lack of public health and social policies are responsible for teaching suffering. Thus, it is emphasized that, in the short and medium term, the ways of coping must be changed (eg, avoid blaming yourself, allowing yourself to be in a worldwide chaos, looking for strategies to increase resilience and seeking professional help in situations psychological disorders).
