The phytotherapic potential of the Chenopodium Ambrosioides L. in Dentistry

Resumo: Objective: To perform a narrative bibliographic review addressing scientific research that demonstrates the phytotherapic potential of Chenopodium ambrosioides L. (mastruz) in dentistry. Methods: Scientific articles were selected from the databases: PubMED, BBO, LILACS, SCIELO, in addition to dissertations that met the requirements of the topic addressed, published in the period between 2010 and 2020. The research on the platforms took place through the following descriptors, in Portuguese and English: Chenopodium ambrosioides, mastruz, phytotherapy and dentistry. Results: After analyzing the data found, it was observed that Chenopodium ambrosioides L. is a plant native to Central and South America and is widely distributed throughout the Brazilian territory. Its use in folk medicine consists of the treatment of wounds, leukorrhea, inflammatory processes and as an anthelmintic agent. In dentistry, it acts as a potent anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antimicrobial, being able to interfere in the development of biofilm. Conclusion: The advances in studies with Chenopodium ambrosioides L. are quite significant. However, greater applicability of the plant in dentistry is essential through in vivo studies, providing a greater depth of these studies for more concrete analyzes.

(mastruz) en odontología. Métodos: Se seleccionaron artículos científicos de las bases de datos: PubMED, BBO, LILACS, SCIELO, además de disertaciones que cumplieron con los requisitos del tema abordado, publicados en el período comprendido entre 2010 y 2020. La investigación en las plataformas se realizó a través de los siguientes descriptores, en portugués e inglés: Chenopodium ambrosioides, mastruz, hierbas medicinales y odontología. Resultados: Después de analizar los datos encontrados, se observó que Chenopodium ambrosioides L. es una planta nativa de América Central y del Sur y está ampliamente distribuida en todo el territorio brasileño. Su uso en medicina popular consiste en el tratamiento de heridas, leucorrea, procesos inflamatorios y como agente antihelmíntico. En odontología, actúa como un potente antiinflamatorio, antifúngico y antimicrobiano, pudiendo interferir en el desarrollo de la biopelícula. Conclusión: Los avances en estudios con Chenopodium ambrosioides L. son bastante significativos. Sin embargo, una mayor aplicabilidad de la planta en odontología es esencial a través de estudios in vivo, proporcionando una mayor profundidad de estos estudios para análisis más concretos.Objetivo: Realizar uma revisão bibliográfica narrativa abordando as pesquisas científicas que demonstram o potencial fitoterápico do Chenopodium ambrosioides L. (mastruz) na odontologia. Métodos: Foram selecionados artigos científicos a partir das bases de dados: PubMED, BBO, LILACS, SCIELO, além de dissertações que atenderam aos requisitos do tema abordado, publicadas no período compreendido entre 2010 e 2020. A pesquisa nas plataformas se deu através dos seguintes descritores, nas línguas portuguesa e inglesa: Chenopodium ambrosioides, mastruz, fitoterápicos e odontologia. Resultados: Após a análise dos dados encontrados, observou-se que o Chenopodium ambrosioides L. é uma planta nativa da América Central e do Sul e é amplamente distribuída em todo o território brasileiro. O seu uso na medicina popular consiste no tratamento de feridas, leucorreia, processos inflamatórios e como agente anti-helmíntico. Na odontologia, atua como um potente anti-inflamatório, antifúngico e antimicrobiano, sendo capaz de interferir no desenvolvimento do biofilme. Conclusão: Os avanços nos estudos com o Chenopodium ambrosioides L. são bastante significativos.
