Resumo: To conduct a survey of national and international literature on the main epidemics and pandemics that have occurred in Brazil and the world. Scoping review was utilized as methodology, conducted from a qualitative historiographical approach, bringing a historically organized discussion of the main pandemics that hit humanity. As a result, the convergence of fields in public health, public policies and the necessity of creating structure for the prevention and the combat against pandemics were listed. It is concluded that the pandemic cycles faced by humanity greatly interfere in multiple social issues, slowing down the pace of life for all of humanity, creating changes in structure and in health and economic system policies.

Para eso, se utilizó como método un scoping review, a partir de un enfoque cualitativo historiográfico, trayendo una discusión históricamente organizada de las principales pandemias que azotan a la humanidad. Como resultado, se destacó la convergencia entre los campos de la salud pública, políticas públicas y la necesidad de creación de estructuras para la prevención y combate a las pandemias. Se concluye que los ciclos pandémicos enfrentados por la humanidad interfieren fuertemente en diversas cuestiones sociales, desacelerando el ritmo de la vida de las personas y de toda la humanidad, generando cambios estructurales y políticas en los sistemas económicos y de salud.Realizar um levantamento da literatura nacional e internacional a respeito das principais epidemias e pandemias que ocorreram no Brasil e no mundo.  Para isto, utilizou-se como método um scoping review, a partir de uma abordagem qualitativa historiográfica, trazendo uma discussão organizada historicamente das principais pandemias que atingiram a humanidade.  Como resultado, elencou-se a convergência entre os campos da saúde pública, políticas públicas e a necessidade de criação de estruturas para a prevenção e combate às pandemias, sendo elas: A peste bubônica, cólera, varíola, gripe espanhola, H1N1, SARS e COVID-19.
