Ecletismo e retórica na filosofia brasileira: de Silvestre Pinheiro Ferreira (1769-1846) ao frei Francisco do Monte Alverne (1784-1858)

Resumo: The article deals with the eclectic philosophy of Victor Cousin and hisbrazilian repeaters at nineteenth century, Silvestre Pinheiro Pereira andFrancisco do Monte Alverne. With Antonio Paim, Laerte Ramos de Carvalhoand Maria Beatriz Nizza da Silva, this literature review highlights somephilosophical issues of the famous sacred orator and priest-master, in viewof role of the Catholic Church as a major vehicle for the disseminationand production of knowledge in Luso-Brazilian territory, through theprocess known as civilizing mission. The main objective is to study howthe eclecticism was used as a rhetorical device to justify the limits, thedispersion and the shallowness of the site philosophical debate. As a result,we founded a national eloquence as the germ of a “Saquarema Time”, inwhich the same words would serve to different politic positions.

O objetivo principal é estudar as relações entreo ecletismo e a retórica em prol da justificação dos limites, da dispersão eda superficialidade do debate filosófico local. Revisando as obras de AntônioPaim, Laerte Ramos de Carvalho e Maria Beatriz Nizza da Silva, destacou-se,especialmente, alguns pressupostos filosóficos do pensamento do célebreorador sagrado e padre-mestre Monte Alverne, tendo em vista o papel daIgreja católica como um dos principais veículos de difusão e produção doconhecimento em território luso-brasileiro, mediante o processo que ficouconhecido como missão civilizatória.
