Resumo: The independence of Brazil constituted a landmark in the historical culture. History helped to consolidate this process, integrating it with civic education. This role of discipline is largely exercised in school systems through the textbook. As a cultural product, the didactic manual is guided by its moment of production. The history book also materializes a sample of historical culture, in which the past is re-elaborated and conveyed in constant dialogue with different social environments. This article proposes to investigate the ways of systematizing, conceiving and representing the independence of Brazil in the didactic collections approved in the National Textbook Program (PNLD) of 2020. truth”, in addition to being mobilized as a space of legitimacy for social groups. However, it is still marked by premises of previous national narratives. The analysis of the contents referring to the process of emancipation in Brazil included symbols, metaphors and images present in the main and secondary texts. In addition to pointing out clues about the cultural universe to which they belong, these elements point towards other interpretative paths, which indicate obstacles, possibilities and the role of history teaching in the current conjuncture.

A história ajudou a consolidar esse processo, integrando-o a uma educação cívica. Esse papel da disciplina é largamente exercido nos sistemas escolares através do livro didático. Como um produto cultural, o manual didático é pautado pelo seu momento de produção. O livro de história também materializa uma amostra de cultura histórica, na qual o passado é reelaborado e veiculado em constante diálogo com diferentes meios sociais. Esse artigo propõe investigar as formas de sistematizar, conceber e representar a independência do Brasil nas coleções didáticas aprovadas no Programa Nacional do Livro Didático (PNLD) de 2020. A partir de pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, constatamos como o livro didático se tornou “fonte de verdade”, além de ser mobilizado como espaço de legitimidade para grupos sociais. Porém, ainda é marcado por premissas das narrativas nacionais anteriores. A análise dos conteúdos referentes ao processo de emancipação do Brasil abarcou símbolos, metáforas e imagens presentes nos textos principais e secundários.
