Resumo: This article deals with the rise of the servants' issue in an immediate post-abolition context in Ceará, correlating it with debates across the country on this theme. The aim is to delineate the issue of hiring domestic servants as a successor to the servile element issue, given the correlation with the organization of owner families in cities. The focus of this text, after this contextualization, turns to the Servants' Hiring Posture, and here it is seen its complementarity with the census of the population of Fortaleza; both understood as preventive police for the peacekeeping of families. At this point, one can see the servants' confrontation with their masters, often former slaveholders.

Procura-se delinear o assunto relativo à contratação dos criados domésticos como sucessor da questão do elemento servil, dada à correlação com a organização das famílias proprietárias nas cidades. O foco desse texto, após essa contextualização, volta-se para a Postura de Contratação dos Criados de Servir, e aqui se dá a ver a sua complementariedade com o recenseamento da população de Fortaleza; ambos compreendidos como polícia preventiva para manutenção da paz das famílias.
