The JOHN KÖPKE'S CONTRIBUTIONS TO BRAZILIAN EDUCATION AND CHILD LITERATURE IN THE 19TH CENTURY

Resumo: | The 19th century, in Brazil, had as its important landmark the Proclamation of the Republic, which brought discoveries and innovations for the period. In this context, the Brazilian educational modernization adopted elements imported from Europe and the United States to act in the school policy of the new regime. João Köpke's pedagogical practice was present at this moment, configuring an intense work that sought new ways to teach reading and writing through, above all, the analytical method. In the meantime, he even wrote literature for children without the moralizing character of the time, which happened in his unpublished manuscript, Verses for the Little Ones, created between 1886 and 1897. Thus, we aim to discuss Köpke's contributions in both educational as well as the literary scenario, observing their importance in these two fields and drawing parallels between them. For this, we use authors such as Panizzolo (2006), Mortatti (2015) and Ferreira (2017). |

O século XIX, no Brasil, teve como marco importante a Proclamação da República, que trouxe descobertas e inovações para o período. Nesse contexto, a modernização educacional brasileira adotou elementos importados da Europa e dos Estados Unidos para atuarem na política escolar do novo regime. A prática pedagógica de João Köpke se fez presente nesse momento, configurando um trabalho intenso que buscava novas formas de ensinar a ler e a escrever através, sobretudo, do método analítico. Nesse entremeio, ele ainda escreveu literatura para crianças sem o caráter moralizante da época, o que aconteceu no seu manuscrito, que sequer foi editado, Versos para os pequeninos, produzido entre 1886 e 1897. Assim, objetivamos discorrer sobre as contribuições de Köpke tanto no cenário educacional, quanto no literário, observando sua importância nessas duas searas e realizando paralelos entre elas. Para isso, nos valemos de autores como Panizzolo (2006), Mortatti (2015) e Ferreira (2017).
