GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE IN THE UNIVERSITY: resistances beyond silence and omissions

The objective of this article is to present the results of a study conducted on the prevalence of gender-based violence at a public university in the State of Paraná, as well as the identified nuances within this context. The methodological approach involved a cross-sectional research study conducted with students at the State University of Northern Paraná (UENP), aged 18 and above, using stratified random sampling and data collection through an online questionnaire on gender-based violence and other forms of violence in the university environment. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and textual corpus analysis, focusing on instances of gender-based violence, resulting in descriptive measures, illustrative graphs and tables, as well as content analysis of the responses. The results corroborate aspects of sexism and multiple forms of gender-based violence, including significant instances of psychological harassment, threats, humiliation, and sexual violence in the university environment, as well as the silencing of complaints, institutional omission, and complacency. Despite declarations of social inclusion and human rights in university documents, the absence of a commitment to implementing institutional policies to combat gender-based violence in the university environment is revealed.
