This study addressed the perceptions that the students of two classes of the Letras - Inglês from UFOPA held about the relationship between language and culture in the English language class and in their training as future teachers.  More specifically, the reflections (re)constructed and shared in the Anglophone Cultures discipline. The activities of this discipline were planned following the intercultural approach, which according to Corbett (2003), treats all cultural values as open to debate and individuals open to the critical examination and negotiation. The results of this study showed that when working with this relationship between language and culture, in light of the post-colonial theory and intercultural pedagogy, empowerment discourses, agency of speakers, possibilities of resistance and locally situated cultural identities were identified in the participants discourses.
