Resumo: The purpose of this essay is to delimit some contemporary forms of school violence, analyze the impact they have on the cultural formation of children and young people in the process of schooling, and discuss the implications of their specificities for the accountability of aggressors, the school institution and society. Through the non-systematic allusion to the results of recent research with which the authors collaborated and the review of articles and essays dedicated to the study of this theme, the problem of school violence is articulated in the sphere of accountability. As this is a complex problem that encompasses more dimensions and characteristics than could adequately be considered in a small study such as this, aspects that correspond to delimitations proposed or inspired by thinkers of the first generation of the Frankfurt School, especially by Horkheimer, Adorno and Marcuse, will be prioritized. The Critical Theory of Society seems to us useful for the analysis of important dimensions of the production and reproduction of violence within the school. In this study, in particular, we will analyze: 1 - forms of school violence; 2 - determinants and impacts of the regression of the individual and its relation with the production of school violence; 3 - expressions of institutional violence: the conformation of the double school hierarchy; 4 – the different levels of production of school violence and accountability.

Por meio da alusão não sistemática a resultados de pesquisas recentes com as quais os autores colaboraram e da revisão de artigos e ensaios que se dedicaram ao estudo dessa temática, articula-se o problema da violência escolar à esfera da responsabilização. Como se trata de um problema complexo, que abrange mais dimensões e características do que se poderia adequadamente considerar em um pequeno estudo como este, serão priorizados aspectos que correspondem a delimitações propostas ou inspiradas por pensadores da primeira geração da Escola de Frankfurt, sobretudo por Horkheimer, Adorno e Marcuse. A Teoria Crítica da Sociedade parece-nos profícua para a análise de importantes dimensões da produção e da reprodução da violência no âmbito da escola.
