Resumo: The “Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife” (PAG) convened in 2010 an international ideas contest to run the “Atrio de la Alhambra”. The project presented on second round by the architects Alvaro Siza Vieira and Juan Domingo Santos was the winner but today, almost 8 years later, it has not been executed. The context of this impasse is an open controversy in which civil organizations, patrimonialists, professional colleges, the PAG itself and even ICOMOS (International Council of Monuments and Sites / UNESCO) have intervened.The following work aims to historicize the mismatches that the Atrium project claim to solve, through the different configurations assumed in the Plan Director 2007-2020 as the 2010 international contest, replacing some of the most reliable arguments that result in the controversy and a contribution from an architectural and urbanistic component through the city-monument hypothesis as an indissoluble pair.

El proyecto presentado en segunda vuelta por los arquitectos Álvaro Siza Vieira y Juan Domingo Santos resultó ganador pero al día de hoy, casi 8 años más tarde, no se ha ejecutado. El marco de este impasse es una polémica abierta en la que han intervenido desde organizaciones civiles, patrimonialistas, colegiaturas profesionales, el propio PAG e inclusive el Consejo Internacional de Monumentos y Sitios/UNESCO - ICOMOS. El siguiente trabajo se propone historizar el problema que vendría a resolver el Atrio, a través de las distintas configuraciones que asume en el Plan Director 2007-2020 como las del concurso de 2010, reponiendo algunos de los argumentos más solventes que redundan la polémica y hacer un aporte desde una componente arquitectónica y urbanística a través de la hipótesis de ciudad-monumento como par indisoluble.O Patronato da Alhambra e Generalife (PAG) convocou em 2010 uma competição internacional de ideias para administrar o “átrio da Alhambra”. O projeto apresentado na segunda volta pelos arquitetos Álvaro Siza Vieira e Juan Domingo Santos foi o vencedor, mas até hoje, quase oito anos depois, não foi executado. No centro desse impasse está uma controvérsia aberta pela intervenção de organizações civis, patrimonialistas, faculdades profissionais, o próprio PAG e até mesmo o ICOMOS (Conselho Internacional de Monumentos e Locais / UNESCO).
