Resumo: This article is a brief introduction to the life and works of the Austrian politician and jurist Karl Renner who was a congressman and both prime minister and president of Austria, whose  most well known work, The Institutions of Private Law and their Social Functions, a pionering contribution to a marxist sociology of law, more than one century after its original publishing is still available only in German, English and Italian.
