University-factory: precarization and proletarianization of teaching work in Higher Educational Institutions of Brazil

Resumo: This article aims to discuss the precarization and the proletarianization of teaching work in Public and Private Higher Education Institutions in Brazil from two perspectives: the flexibilization of labour rights and the precarization of academic practice. We submit that the expansion of private capital in Higher Education Institutions in Brazil and the underlined neoliberal policies are responsible for the precarization and proletarianization of teaching work. The article covers the period from 1990 to 2015. In the first section, the relationship between the production of knowledge and the capitalist mode of production is discussed, as well as the impact of neoliberal measures on different aspects of social life. In the second section, the impact of neoliberal policies on Brazil universities is addressed. The third section seeks to present an overview of precariousness of work based on aspects of productive restructuring. Then, in the fourth section, the precariousness of teaching work is discussed from the perspective of the intensification of the exploitation of this workforce. Finally, in the fifth section, the process of proletarianization of teaching work is assessed. The research was carried out based on a bibliographical review on the subject, from analysis to primary sources made available, mainly, by the Ministry of Education and, also, by the jurisprudence of Labour Courts.

O estudo busca relacionar, em primeiro lugar, o processo de produção de conhecimento com o modo de produção capitalista em perspectiva mais geral, para, então, traçar um recorte específico de estudo, que é o impacto das medidas neoliberais nas universidades do Brasil, por um lado e, por outro, o impacto da precarização do trabalho em geral no tocante ao trabalho docente em particular.
