A study of the bank agencies in the COREDE Vale do Rio dos Sinos as of the Theory of the Localization: 1995-2005

Resumo: The purpose of this paper is to identify the explanatory variables of the localization of bank agencies in the Regional Council of Economic Development (COREDE) of the “Vale do Rio dos Sinos” (CONSINOS), in the period of 1995-2005. By analyzing the case of Rio Grande do Sul, one can observe that from 1,158 bank agencies installed in 1995, this number went to 1,322 in 2005, what represents a growth of 14%. By researching these same data for the CONSINOS, which owns 8.92% of the total agencies localized in the state, one gets the same growth rate of 14% of growth in this same period. That’s to say, there has been a, enlargement from 103 to 118 agencies distributed in the cities of the region, especially in Canoas, Novo Hamburgo and São Leopoldo, which in 2005 had 26, 29 e 19 commercial bank agencies, respectively, including public and private institutions.

O propósito desse artigo é identificar as variáveis explicativas da localização das agências bancárias no Conselho Regional de Desenvolvimento Econômico (COREDE) do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (CONSINOS), no período 1995-2005. Ao analisar o caso do Rio Grande do Sul, observa-se que de 1.158 agências bancárias instaladas em 1995, esse número passou para 1.322 em 2005, o que representa um crescimento de 14%. Ao pesquisar esses mesmos dados para o CONSINOS, que possui 8,92% do total de agências localizadas no estado, obtém-se o mesmo índice de 14% de crescimento nesse mesmo período. Ou seja, houve uma ampliação de 103 para 118 agências, distribuídas entre os municípios integrantes, com destaque para as cidades de Canoas, Novo Hamburgo e São Leopoldo, que, em 2005, mantinham, respectivamente, 26, 29 e 19 agências de bancos comerciais, incluindo instituições públicas e privadas.
