Elderly perceptions about sexuality and possible limitations

Resumo: Introduction: sexuality in the elderly is still a social taboo. In this perspective, the commitment of the health professional’s practice in addressing the topic of sexuality in the elderly is fundamental, since sexual health is part of the quality of life.Objective: To verify the knowledge of the elderly about sexuality and its practices in daily life, as well as possible limitations on the theme.Materials and methods: a descriptive study with elderly people from a Basic Health Unit, in the city of Loanda, Paraná. A questionnaire was applied to identify the sociodemographic profile and sexual knowledge and practices reported by the elderly. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. All ethical aspects were respected.Results: The elderly have a reasonably active sexual life, considered by them to be important, but the prevention of sexually transmitted infections is not constant, they do not seek to resolve their doubts and do not have a health education program.Conclusion: the elderly lack health education measures related to sexual practices, besides, the data showed the need and importance of health education for the elderly, as well as the health professional as an educator.

Nesta perspectiva, surgem maiores vulnerabilidades resultados de lacunas acerca da sexualidade do idoso. A educação em saúde constitui-se um relevante instrumento para reverter este cenário.Objetivo: verificar o conhecimento dos idosos de um determinado grupo sobre a sexualidade e suas práticas na vida cotidiana, bem como possíveis limitações sobre o tema.Materiais e métodos: os processos metodológicos utilizados caracterizaram-se por uma abordagem quantitativa, de caráter descritivo de amostra não probabilística por conveniência de idosos que pertencem a uma unidade básica de saúde, da cidade de Loanda, Paraná.
