Resumo: Background: Depression in the elderly population is frequent and compromises their quality of life, and nutrient intake may be associated.Purpose: To analyze the relationship between emotional state and food consumption among elderly people.Method: Cross-sectional study, where were assessed 37 elderly people living in Porto Alegre. Food consumption was assessed using a 24-hour recall using the Dietwin Plus program. The Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) was used to assess emotional status. Results: Twelve (32.4%) subjects were out of risk of mood changes. Elderly people who consumed smaller amounts of vegetables, greenery and derivatives (r= -,434), fruits (r =-,328), and vitamins A, C and K and potassium (r = -,347; -,370; - ,364 and; -,345 respectively) were more prone to mood changes. The only positive correlation with the GDS result was the daily caloric intake (r=, 473), that is, the higher the caloric intake, the greater the risk of mood changes. On average, the sample showed changes in emotional state (+5.54 points). Conclusion: Eating habits can indicate risk of mood changes in the elderly, which can lead to more serious conditions, such as depression, influencing the quality of life in aging.

Universidade LaSalle - Unilasalle CanoasDausacker, Urzsula PadilhaBarbiero, Sandra MariLockmann, Adriana da SilvaTelles da Rosa, Luis HenriqueFerreira, Luis Fernando2020-09-02info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://revistas.unilasalle.edu.br/index.php/saude_desenvolvimento/article/view/701510.18316/sdh.v8i3.7015Saúde e Desenvolvimento Humano; v. 8, n. 3 (2020); p. 149-154Saúde e Desenvolvimento Humano; v. 8, n. 3 (2020); p. 149-1542317-8582reponame:Saúde e Desenvolvimento Humanoinstname:Universidade La Salle (UNILASALLE)instacron:UNILASALLEporhttps://revistas.unilasalle.edu.br/index.php/saude_desenvolvimento/article/view/7015/pdfhttps://revistas.unilasalle.edu.br/index.php/saude_desenvolvimento/article/downloadSuppFile/7015/1512Direitos autorais 2020 Saúde e Desenvolvimento Humanoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2022-03-29T14:47:55Zoai:ojs.revistas.unilasalle.edu.br:article/7015Revistahttp://www.revistas.unilasalle.edu.br/index.php/saude_desenvolvimentohttps://revistas.unilasalle.edu.br/index.php/saude_desenvolvimento/oaisdh@unilasalle.edu.br2317-85822317-8582opendoar:2022-03-29T14:47:55Saúde e Desenvolvimento Humano - Universidade La Salle (UNILASALLE)false
