Resumo: Introduction: One way to assess postural control, both unipodal as bipedal, is by measuring the electromyographic activity of lower limb muscles (biceps femoris, rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, and medial gastrocnemius). Objectives: To compare the electromyographic postural control bipedal and unipodal handball athletes with female bodybuilders.Methodology: Postural control was evaluated using the test remain as still as possible for 30 seconds, bipedal support and unipodal right. Results: The handball athletes had higher activation in the rectus femoris muscle in the bipodal condition, and also for the four muscles evaluated in unipodal condition, while for bodybuilders to increased activation was found only for the rectus femoris and medial gastrocnemius in unipodal condition. Conclusion: It is possible to conclude, based on this study, that the practice of different sports can interfere, due to the specificity of the trained modality, provoking physiological changes e with the maintenance of postural control, assessed by electromyography.
