Effects of Pilates Method practice in athletes of different modalities

Resumo: | Introduction: Pilates is a widespread physical activity and sought due to the responsiveness of its participants. It appears as a form of physical conditioning that seeks the general welfare of the subject. People, in general, are increasingly benefiting from the method as a form of body restructuring, looking for a leveling between flexibility, strength and endurance, and as a way of preventing injuries. Despite all the benefits of the practice of this activity, there are few scientific evidence found until today regarding the results with high performance athletes. Objective: the aim of this study was to review previous findings regarding the effects of the practice of Pilates for Athletes, whether amateur or not. Method: papers were selected and analyzed from refereed journals and studies on specific databases.Results and conclusion: It was observed that the Pilates method brought benefits related to sports performance, coordination, flexibility, muscle strength and posture. Given the lack of data found, there is a need for the development of further studies with athletes in other modalities and with female athletes in general. |

Surgiu como uma forma de condicionamento físico que busca o bem-estar geral do indivíduo. As pessoas, em geral, vêm cada vez mais se beneficiando do método como uma forma de reestruturação do corpo, procurando um nivelamento entre flexibilidade, força e resistência, e ainda como uma forma de prevenção de lesões. Apesar de todos os efeitos benéficos observados na prática dessa atividade, poucas são as evidências científicas encontradas nos dias atuais, no que se refere aos resultados com atletas de alto rendimento.Objetivo: O objetivo deste estudo foi revisar achados anteriores quanto aos efeitos da prática do Método Pilates por atletas, sejam eles amadores ou não.Método: Foram selecionados e analisados artigos de periódicos arbitrados e estudos presentes em bancos de dados acadêmicos.Resultados e conclusões: Observou-se que o Método Pilates trouxe benefícios noque tange ao desempenho esportivo, coordenação, flexibilidade, força muscular e postura.
