Self-regulation Health Behavior and Breast Cancer: A Systematic Review

The perceptions or beliefs one individual has about a particular disease, whether sick or healthy, are related to their conduct for the maintenance or restoration of the health, self-regulating their behavior about this situation. The aim of this paper was to investigate the contributions of Self- Regulation Model of Common Sense (MSC) in scientific research on breast cancer, verify that the MSC is integrated with other theoretical constructs on the identified studies and discuss the methodological aspects of the studies included in this review. Empirical studies were selected on awareness of breast cancer from August 2004 to June 2015 in Medline, Pubmed and/or PsycInfo. Twelve articles were included in the analysis. Studies have shown that inadequate perception of the disease can cause psychological disorders such as anxiety, depression, and distress. The study participants accessed mostly through clinical and hospital samples of women with the disease.
