The impact of pesticide use on public health: literature review

Resumo: Introduction: The extensive use of pesticides has been increasingly associated with health problems in the population, and further studies on the subject are fundamental.Objective: To identify the theoretical production related to the impacts of pesticides on public health, through the integrative review in the databases Virtual Health Library and SciElo.Materials and methods: the integrative literature review was used.Results: It was observed that in regions with large-scale pesticide use the population presented higher rates of hearing impairment, gestational problems, neurological diseases, neoplasms and acute intoxications. In addition, there were also problems in the environmental scenario, such as the detriment of water resources for human consumption and water contamination.Conclusion: With this, it is necessary to invest more in control and monitoring actions for the use of pesticides, besides expanding the studies so that there is greater knowledge of the population on the subject.

Objetivo: identificar a produção teórica referente aos impactos dos agrotóxicos na saúde pública, por meio da revisão integrativa nas bases de dados Biblioteca Virtual da Saúde e SciElo. Materiais e métodos: utilizou-se a revisão integrativa de literatura. Resultados: Observou-se que em regiões com utilização de agrotóxicos em larga escala a população apresentou maiores taxas de alterações auditivas, problemas gestacionais, doenças neurológicas, neoplasias e intoxicações agudas. Além disso, observou-se também problemas no cenário ambiental, como detrimento dos recursos hídricos para consumo humano e contaminação das águas.
