In this paper we address the use of Distance Education forum or online forum as an educational tool used in the Distance Education Mode (DL). The starting point was the concept of Distance Education and the relevance of this type of teaching and learning for education and for society as a whole; carry on about the Distance Education in virtual learning environment, the distance education forum or online forum, characterizing it as genre and one of the most used tools in teaching and distance learning. Our theoretical framework is rooted in: Moore (1993), Levy (1996), Preti (1996), Marcuschi (2001), Moran (2002; 2007), New; Ahmed (2003), Sanchez (2205), Moran (2007), Belloni (2009), Dias; Milk (2010), Scavazza (2010), Peters (2015), among others. This study is part of a wider research, which culminated in the dissertation entitled "The repetition as a strategy in the textual-discursive organization in Distance Education forum", presented to the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI) in February, 2016, and which comprises the result of analysis of 02 (two) forums that took place in the subject called Reading and Texts Production, which was a discipline of Portuguese Language Graduation Course, in the Distance Education of UFPI at São João do Piauí Cit, whose data were extracted from the Moodle Platform (Modular Object oriented Dynamic Learning Enviroment).
