Discussion of a proposal for a professionalizing doctorate in Mathematical Education

Resumo: | This article presents a documentary research on the permanent training of mathematics teachers through the study of postgraduate studies. The distinction between academic postgraduate degrees (for research) and professionalization (to influence work fields) has been in use for several years and in different countries. We contextualize the discussion based on the Brazilian case, emphasizing the PROFMAT case as an example of a professionalizing master's degree. We discuss the main challenges that have been detected in the generation of this type of postgraduate programs and present the bases and foundations of a proposal for a professionalizing doctorate in Mathematical Education in Mexico. Among the main results, we highlight the potential that the use of a knowledge model with emphasis on mathematics has in the design of programs and the consideration of the characteristics of the expert teacher as achievable goals. |

La distinción entre posgrados académicos (para la investigación) y profesionalizantes (para incidir en campos de trabajo) se ha venido manejando desde hace varios años y en distintos países. Contextualizamos la discusión a partir del caso brasileño, enfatizando en el caso de PROFMAT como ejemplo de máster profesionalizante. Discutimos los principales retos que se han detectado en la generación de este tipo de programas de posgrado y presentamos las bases y fundamentos de una propuesta de doctorado profesionalizante en Educación Matemática en México.
